This is a reminder to all that Homework Support at EMS will begin on September 26th. All EMS students are welcome to join in room #213 (Elizabeth Warren) for extra support on assignments and assessments of any subject matter. HW Support will be hosted directly after 3:45pm - 4:45pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.

This last Wednesday EMS practiced a Lockdown Drill. We revisited Lockdown expectations at a virtual assembly, then implemented the drill. Students were secure in classrooms within seconds and the drill lasted 15 minutes.

We drill so we can take quick action in the occurrence of a true-life threat at EMS.

The first learning opportunity each day is in Life (Homeroom) Class. Each day, students are welcomed by their teachers to sit together to review previous and upcoming learning opportunities.

In Life class, students engage in SecondStep curriculum to build social-emotional competencies like self-awareness, social-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills. Students also monitor their progress in attendance, work completion, proficiency, and on-track towards goals.

Our school is working toward RAMP (Recognized ASCA - American School Counselor Association - Model Program) distinguished. In doing so, we asked students to complete a school's needs assessment to ask about our students' academic readiness, social-emotional learning and well-being, career and college readiness, and learning outcomes.

Below are the lowest-rated indicators from nearly 80% of our students. Because of these areas of concern, we discussed small counseling groups, Second Step, health class content focusing on mental health and wellness as some of the strategies to help address these concerns.

We aspire to respond to our students' needs.

This week students were provided a Chromebook Case to protect their 1:1 device. These cases are due back at the end of the year and are identifiable by their Student ID number.

We expect students to be using the Chromebook Cases to limit damages and to save you money if/when your student damages their Chromebook.

We want to communicate key data regarding our school's academic behaviors and focus on learning. Estacada Middle School follows the PBIS model. PBIS is a positive behavior approach to discipline and school rules and expectations. At EMS students are rewarded, with points, for modeling and demonstrating desired behavior. Students are then allowed to purchase items, rewards and are eligible for incentives based on their points from the school PBIS store. Below is a current breakdown of points that have been earned and by grade level.

--We averaged 94% attendance last week per day

--84.7% of students in attendance attended 100% of classes on time

--99% of students were referral-free last week and 96.6% of EMS students are referral free for the school year

If your student is experiencing any of the following unwanted behaviors from peers, encourage your student to come to the office and make a report to our Vice-Principal. These reports allow our office team to problem-solve with students about unwanted behavior.
