October Newsletter
Message from Mrs. Lockett
Happy October Families,
I hope this has been an easy transition back to school this year. We have loved meeting you and getting to know your children better. This month is quite busy at LES. Please read these newsletters thoroughly in order to stay informed of all the happenings at our school. October 14 is our 100 year celebration. Please share this invitation with friends and alumni of LES. Also this month, we will have our Halloween Parade featuring the "Red Scare" pep band and cheerleaders from LHS.
Thank you for your continued support at home. Please remind your children to do their BEST and nothing LESs!
Thank you,
Melissa N. Lockett

100 Years at LES!
🥳In each newsletter this year, we will share a picture and information about our beloved little school in honor of the 100th year celebration.
Did you know that there is a time capsule buried in the wall at LES? This time capsule was placed into the wall in May of 1974, Lawrenceville Elementary's 50th celebration. We will open the time capsule this May and add new items from students currently attending our school. More information to come on the day and time of that event. The picture below is from The Lawrence Ledger in May of 1974 showing the Principal and the baker of the LES shaped cake! Come to our 100 year celebration to enjoy cupcakes in the shape of the number 100!

NEW!! Tone Chime Group
This Fall, we are very excited to offer 3rd graders Music Club with Mr. S! The Music Club will run during the school day on Wednesdays and Fridays. For the fall cycle, students will have the opportunity to learn how to play Tone Chimes - a type of aluminum hand bell. This is an exciting chance for students to work with their peers as they learn a new instrument and work together as an ensemble.
Respect Week 2023
LES enjoyed a fabulous Respect Week celebration from October 2-6! Students and staff dressed up for Spirit Days, showing everyone the importance of respecting ourselves, others and our community. Students were treated to a read aloud from our CARE Kids about the importance of treating one another with respect, and also learned four ways to be an UPstander and stand up for someone who is not being treated respectfully. Our week culminated in our traditional Super Hero Parade of Respect on Friday - as students proudly displayed their masks, belts, capes and shields of respect. We all know that we can #Speak Up to remind everyone to treat others with kindness and respect!

Second Step lessons begin this month!
Second Step is our school-wide social-emotional learning program. Social emotional learning is how we develop the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that help us to be successful in school and in life. Students with strong social-emotional skills are better able to cope with everyday challenges and they benefit both socially and academically from these skills. Studies also show that when students are better equipped to manage their emotions, make good decisions and cope with everyday social and emotional challenges, they are better equipped to learn.
Your child's teacher will begin delivering Second Step lessons this month. Each lesson centers around a theme, and includes games and songs to encourage engagement. In order to extend the skills taught during Second Step lessons, we also infuse them into Morning Meeting, daily lessons and activities, as well as read alouds from our SEL grade level libraries.
Please CLICK HERE for more information about the program, as well as an Activation Code for your own Second Step account. Please contact Mrs. Wall, School Counselor, at mwall@ltps.org with any questions.
