EHE Connection
January 10, 2022
Greetings, Laker Families-
Greetings, Laker Families-
Well, our first week after winter break was definitely eventful with the weather, but it is so good to have our students back! Sunday’s sunshine was a much needed boost, and I hope families were able to enjoy a little dry, outdoor activity. As we consider our unpredictable Pacific Northwest weather and the need for students to “move” out in the fresh air, we’ll continue to enjoy recess outside as much as safely possible (rain or shine). Please send your child to school each day with a warm coat, hat, and gloves in order to play outdoors.
Fun Activities on the horizon for our students:
Kids Heart Challenge (Jump Rope for Heart) kickoff was last Friday – students should have brought home some information regarding heart healthy activities in PE and the process for collecting donations for the American Heart Association. Please watch for additional communication to be sent home regarding the actual “Jump Rope for Heart” event at EHE. If you have questions, please email Mr. Holme at mark_holme@sumnersd.org
MLK Day is next Monday (1/17) and the 2022 Black History Month begins on February 1. In addition to classroom activities that celebrate and explore the rich cultural traditions for all our students, our fabulous PTA has provided the funds to reserve the performing group from Bright Star Touring Theatre to come perform in person at EHE for all our students on 2/1/22! We are so excited and thankful for this opportunity.

Nuts & Bolts
The lost and found is overflowing at EHE, and we will be donating the items to the Goodwill at the end of January. Please take a quick inventory of your child’s coats, hats, etc., so that you are able to come retrieve any lost items.
We are excited to launch a “modified” version of our WatchDOGS and Art Docent programs in the near future. This will require the support of parents who have been cleared as volunteers through our district’s revised “volunteer clearance process” that meets Covid protocols. NOTE: Please watch for an email in the next two weeks that will include SignUp Genius links for both these PTA supported programs. If you are interested in being cleared as a volunteer specifically for one of these programs, please plan on submitting your name and contact information via the appropriate SignUp Genius link so that we can then submit your name to the district for clearance.

Thank you for your continued support of our school community. Our Laker Purposefull People Character Trait for the month of January is “Courage…To choose what is good, right, and kind even when it’s hard or scary.” Your follow up at home reinforcing your child as he/she demonstrates “courage” each day would be a wonderful home-school connection. The background for our Laker Purposefull People Character Traits can be accessed through the Character Strong website. Thank you for raising such amazing children that desire to be Purposefull People.
