* About EMS Student Spotlight *
The EMS Student Spotlight series shines a light on students who exemplify the themes and competencies outlined in Roxbury's Portrait of a Graduate. In addition to being recognized during morning announcements, all honorees receive EMS-branded t-shirts, certificates, and will have a bio featured on our Student Spotlight bulletin board in the main lobby.
December's Advisory Lesson - Empathy
This month's advisory lesson focused on the skill of empathy. To have empathy means to be able to imagine yourself in another person’s situation and understand what they’re feeling. During advisory, students were invited to discuss examples of how empathy has been shown to them at home, school or in the community. This was followed by a short video that presented students with a "what would you do" social scenario that middle schoolers often encounter. Students then worked in groups to reach a consensus on how to best show empathy in this difficult situation.
Please feel free to follow up with your student at home and discuss today's advisory, what they learned, and how they can show empathy towards all in our school and community!
* About EMS Advisory *
Advisory takes place right after each Friday Finale Assembly. These lessons are tailored for middle schoolers, with activities that focus on promoting good character, developing social and emotional skills, and fostering a positive school community. All students participate in advisory with their homeroom classmates and teacher(s) prior to their period 1 class.
