Middle School Retreat
Bible Class
Most psalms have a title. For example, the title in Psalm 3 says: “A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.” These titles were not added later by translators, but are a part of the inspired Scripture. They are different from the chapter headings that appear throughout the Bible—those were added by translators. Be certain to read the psalm titles as you go through Scripture.
Old Testament scholars have developed a number of categories for the psalms, such as hymns, penitential, wisdom, or lament. The book of Psalms has a number of important references to Christ. This week, older levels will look at the correlation between Psalm 22 and Matthew 27.

Psalm 23:1-3, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake."
