Community Check-In
North Rockland Central School District - November 3
Hello North Rockland Families:
This week included legendary District wide Halloween celebrations, big wins for our fall sports teams, educational trips and above all, plenty of learning and discovery both in and outdoors.
We’re about one-third of the way through the 2023-24 school year and I’m so proud of all that our students have achieved. November is a special month, not only for the beauty of autumn, but because it's recognized as a time for traditions, especially in North Rockland.
While the next four weeks will be prime time for classwork and curriculum, it is also an important time to celebrate the spirit of giving, build good character and recognize the invaluable role that family and community play in nurturing the love of learning in the hearts of our children.
Thank you to everyone who has attended parent-teacher conferences this week. The high attendance has given parents a great opportunity to learn more about student’s experiences at school and how to help at home as well as provided our educators with useful tools to ensure every child is getting the most from their education. A question guide for the upcoming nights can be found further below in today’s update to help make the most of these conversations.
The holidays, food drives and colder weather will be here before you know it! As we begin our third month of the 2023-24 school year, let's keep the momentum we have set over the last two. All NR schools have continuously been filled with teamwork, new friends, growth, competition and pride.
As a reminder there is no school next Friday November 10, in observance of Veteran’s Day. The day is always one of great remembrances and reflection in North Rockland and we look forward to honoring our local service members with a variety of events, classes and services NR Strong.
Kris Felicello
Superintendent of Schools
Reminder: The District will hold a public hearing on the upcoming referendum during the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, November 7, 7PM, at Fieldstone Middle School.
NRCSD is asking voters to consider a referendum which would allow the District to access $17 million from its existing Capital Reserve Fund at no additional cost to taxpayers for upgrades to the building and athletics facilities at North Rockland High School.
These construction projects will generate revenue in the form of building aid at approximately 80% of approved project costs.
Detailed information is posted here.
School Leader Spotlight
𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗮 "𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗘" 𝗹𝗼𝘁!
In honor of National Principals Month North Rockland’s Cabinet and Board of Education partnered with local Boxer Donut and Espresso Bar to recognize each of our wonderful campus leaders for the "DOZENS" of things they do for our students. After dropping off the "A-DOUGH-ABLE" treats we sat down to talk about what makes their school go "ROUND."
WGES: 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗘𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼
How do you "SPRINKLE" purpose into your day?
Connecting with my students on a daily basis. Morning greeting, lunch and recess, hosting Huddle up with Harold in a different classroom each morning. Full Story/Thank A Principal Here.
NRBC: 𝗞𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗰𝗖𝗮𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹
What motto makes your school go "ROUND"?
We keep saying, “Let’s plan it, let’s live it, let’s adjust…” This is not only a valuable approach for a new project, like Pathways, but it also layers perfectly over our work with students. Our team knows that there is never one perfect roadmap for helping a student find clarity in a storm. It is complicated, filled with planning, living it -- and adjusting. Full Story/Thank A School Leader Here.
WHES: 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮
What's at the "CENTER" of your school culture?
It is important for all families and students to have an opportunity to be connected with the school, beyond the school day. We are proud of our extensive list of morning and after school program offerings which will begin very soon this year. We work closely with our community partners and businesses during evening events to help families learn about resources out in the community. Be on the lookout for our Wellness and Multicultural event later this year. They were a huge hit last year and we expect the same this spring! Full Story/Thank A Principal Here.

Parent Teacher Conferences Question Guide
No one knows your child better than you do, so Parent Teacher Conferences are a great way to help your child’s teacher learn more.
A good way to start the conversation is by providing your child’s teacher with more information on what motivates your child, likes and dislikes, special skills, strengths or areas they are trying to work on.
1. How can I help at home to support what you’re doing in the classroom?
2. What’s the best way to communicate with you?
3. Does my child need extra help in any areas? Is there a strategy we can collaborate on for success?
4. Ask about your child’s academic performance. Strengths and what needs improvement?
5. How are they doing socially with the other children? How are they feeling emotionally?

Served with care!
Branching off NRCSD’s School to Work program, an Adaptive Curriculum for Community Experiences and Social Skills was developed and launched in 2023-24 for Special Services. #FieldTripFriday! to the Planetarium! - a North Rockland Classic.
Farley Elementary fourth graders kicked off the District wide Elementary NRHS Planetarium 2023-24 field trips. Ooh and Aah's could be heard echoing through the hallways as learners reclined to experience the sky theater where special museum level projectors create a simulation of the night scape above them along the domed ceiling. If you've got it, HAUNT IT!
A North Rockland tradition dating back as long as we can remember, during period 5, the morning of Halloween, the NRHS Senior Costume contest was once again conjured. With a little fright and limelight, students as well as teachers/counselors brought their characters to life center stage to be scored by a panel of judges. While the overall winners won't be announced until the senior luncheon, we're giving every participant bragging rights for strutting their stuff in spooky style! Full Story/More Photos.
Join our Cause
November is Epilepsy Awareness Month!
The District is asking all our students and staff to participate in the annual knowledge empowerment campaign by wearing purple to school Friday, 11/17 to raise awareness about the impact of epilepsy. This year #NRRocksPurple in honor of all those in our school community this terrible illness has affected. 1 in 10 people will have a seizure and 1 in 26 will develop epilepsy during their lifetime. We wear purple to encourage the recognition of seizures, their signs and promote first aid training. Join us as we take action, support one another and help combat stigma NR Together!

Grace academically is a great student and is in the English, Social Studies, and World Language Honor Societies. She has been such an inspiration to her teammates this season and has shown the girls a perfect example of what it means to be a leader. Her coach Brian Diglio said, “Grace has been a leader in every sense of the word, in both example and attitude. She deserves so much credit for her work. She truly embodies what coaches look for in a captain.” Let’s make some #REDANDWHITENOISE for Grace!
Red Raider of the Week
Tommy Farish is our Red Raider of the Week! Tommy is a sophomore at North Rockland High School on the JV football team. The cornerback and special teams player stepped up during the game against Mt.
