Some thoughts for the starting school year
November 2023 Edition
Mr Baffoes' Reflection
We have been thinking about the value of positivity. A positive mindset can lead us all to achieve great things. Our students have taken the value of positivity beyond the classroom and into their communities. This edition of the Jessop Journal celebrates the outcomes that can be achieved when we embody the value of Positivity!
Last Months Value was Positivity
Positivity goes a very long way!
Positivity certainly went a long way for our two children in Jessop who achieved an amazing gold medal for coming first in their BMX competition. Whats the secret to their success? Hard work, lots of practising and being positive (believing that we are the best). Well done to the both of you we are so proud of your achievements! You are a shining example of our October value, Positivity.
The Value for November is Self Belief
WoW Bus
Women of the World meet Jessop Primary Girls!
The WoW Bus came fro a very special visit to a selected group of girls from Jessop Primary. Our school was one of the first ever visits as the bus has only just been launched this month. The girls were certainly not disappointed by their visit as they started with a workshop which encourgaed the girls to speak about themselves and their hopes and dreams! Next came the bus tour which continued to instill energy and motivation through the selfies on the bus and writing affirmations on the wall to empower and celebrate gender equality. The activities from the bus certainly helped towards building resilience, wellbeing and good mental health and the girls evedently did not want to leave at the end of the session.
'This is the best day ever!'
'I wish that it would never end!'
'This is the best lesson I have ever had'
All quotes taken from the girls who had experienced this adventure. Teachers watch out you have competition on your hands.......perhaps all lessons should be taught in a bus from now on! A WoW Bus at least. For more information follow the link provided below.
Meet the team!

'I wish we could have all of our lessons in this bus!'
Exhibition of Work
We were very pleased to see the exhibits entering our school on the penultimate Thursday before the end of term. Held with pride by the children and parents who had worked tirelessly to finish their projects in time. This Exhibition has been an absolute pleasure to put together as the exhibits have been so creative as have all other exhibitions before it. Many thanks to those who took the time to create such outstanding and exquisite pieces, worthy to show off in a real museum. A massive thank you to those who took the time to visit the exhibition. To those who did not get a chance to see the exhibition when you next visit us, feel free to wander around the school and soak in the great master pieces donated from our Exhibition of work.
Music Masters
Our very own Year 4 pupils set to the stage in London's Wigmore Hall and played a piece called 'What's for Dinner' which they collaborated with composer Blasio Kavuma.

Many Voices: Ensemble is a brand-new collection of ensemble music by some of the UK’s leading composers, written in collaboration with 8–10-year-olds on our award-winning Schools Programme. This incredible set of pieces, along with a new album from Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective and NMC Recordings, is now available for free to every school or community music-making group with learning for young people at its heart.
And, we’ve created Many Voices: The Toolkit, to inspire composers, music leaders and educators across the UK to follow in our footsteps and make more fantastic new music, together with young people. If every child should have music in their life, it could start here.
Charity Begins at Home
Many thanks to all who donated food for the local Lewisham Food Bank. This food will make a difference to many families on need.
Prefects working hard to pack the donations ready to be collected

Attendance
Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential, is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.
There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.
We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.
If your child arrives at school from 9.01am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.
Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.
If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.

Class Assemblies
Without Self Belief.......We Have Nothing!
Gazelle Class made a great start with thier assembly which introduced the true meaning of Self Belif. We were welcomed into Hotel Bing which was not a place that you wanted to stay for long, sloppy attention to detail and customer service having a zero rating. The staff at Hotel Bing soon realised that if they wanted to keep the hotel open they must work as a team and believe that they can turn things around to make a difference. In no time their customers returned and their waiting list rocketed. All because they believed that they could achieve the goals they had set themselves and work as a team. Thank you Gazelle Class for reminding us to never give up and persue our dreams even when the going gets tough!
Lest We Forget - Polar Bear Class Assembly
Polar Bear Class took us back to the Stone Age to give us a snap shot of what they have been learning about this term. It was amazing to watch such an informative assembly which reminded us also of the self belief that was needed to enable people to survive. Just when we thought the assembly was over, Polar Bears zapped us back to the present day to remind us about Armistice Day and the brave soldiers who fought in the war to ensure we could have world peace.
Many thanks to all the parents who took the time to come and watch such a heart felt assembly. Well done Gazelle Class your assembly was superb!

Thank you parents for...
Making Bold Statements in EYFS!
A massive thank you for our new bold and beautiful aprons which were bought through our school's Amazon wish list. This has made such a difference to our Expressive Arts and Design projects where children are eager to get their hands on the aprons to make their own unique creations. Parents can now add a sigh of relief now that children are coming home with cleaner clothes at the end of the day.

Parent Maths Drop In
We held our Parent Maths Drop in on Tuesday 7th November and what a huge success it was! Thank you parents, carers, siblings and grandparents for attending this event. It was wonderful to see so many parents engaged and enthusiastic about Maths! The morning was filled with number, shape, measurement, capacity and some rather tricky calculations to solve. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
Can you sort 2D and 3D shapes?
Number, number, number!

Celebration of Light
Despite the rain, wind and cold snap of weather the Celebration of Lights went ahead in its full glory! What a night of fun excitement and laughter it was! A drama piece based on The Gun Powder Plot. Jessop Band singing live, (some old favourites) to the packed crowd of people who came to watch the fireworks and got so much more.
The fireworks gushed and exploded in the air as the crowed whooped and yellped in unison watching the dark sky light up, not just lighting up the sky but our hearts as well. Thank you Mr Baffoe for organising such a memorable event and a thank you to all who came out in support of this too.
All proceeds raised on the night will go to Jessop Primary school.
Safeguarding Coffee Morning 9th November 2023
Today we held our Safeguarding coffee morning covering online safety .
We had PC Freeman, our Safer School Officer for Primary and Preparatory Schools from the Metropolitan Police Service in to give us a presentation on how we can keep our children safe whilst online , he was able to give lots of advice and top tips on the steps that parents and carers can implement on devices that are accessible to children. Thank you to those that attended and to PC Freeman for coming in to meet with us.
Friends of Jessop - Its Off to Work We Go!
Hello Everyone,
Friends of Jessop are working with the school, and Father Nature, to raise funds to enhance the outdoor area at Jessop.
We are so excited to announce that the project is currently being *TRIPLE MATCHFUNDED* by Save Our Wild Isles fund. This means if you put in ÂŁ5, we get another ÂŁ10 to spend on the playgrounds! *ÂŁ15 from ÂŁ5!* This really is an incredible fund raising opportunity and we would really appreciate any & all donations!
https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/p/jessop-primary-school-playground
*What does the project involve?*
creating a woodland walk for a quieter, shady area during busy playtimes
an outdoor classroom for children to learn amongst nature
a herb garden, and place for children to grow fruit and veg
restoring and replanting existing beds
creating habitats to help our urban wildlife
We would like to say a massive thank you for all those who gave up their sparetime to support us with developing the playground. What a transformation already.
