Thanks for all you do for your children and for HMES!
We are in the heart of cold and flu season. It is important that we work together to keep our children healthy. Viruses/Common Colds spread easily among children in schools, and families with school-age children have more infections than others. You can help prevent the spread of viruses and the common cold or help your child get better if he/she does get sick by following a few simple steps.
- Cover his/her nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing and dispose of the tissue immediately.
- Cough or sneeze into the bend of their elbow, or to cough down into the front of their own shirt to help keep as many germs as possible off of the hands.
- Wash your hands often and use hand sanitizer if soap and water is not available.
- Optional, wear a mask. DCSD will have masks available if needed.
CELEBRATIONS
“who am I?”, Black History Segment
Each day students will be virtually presented with a figure (past or present). They have to type in who the person is.
The next day they find out if they were correct! The 1st five students to get the answer, will earn 5 DOJO points!

Hi Parents! Just a reminder, please create your account in Artsonia if you haven't already so that you can see your child's artworks digitally! Click here https://www.artsonia.com/connect/8X2MNJBX and enter the code 8X2MNJBX if asked.
Also, did you know that you can buy gifts with your child's artwork featured? Here are the products available for purchase: https://www.artsonia.com/gifts/products/. When you buy, a portion of the sales comes right back to our school's art program. Thanks!!
From the Clinic: I wanted to remind everyone of our DCSD sick policy which is that students must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications (i.e., Tylenol, Ibuprofen) before they can return to school. If you are not sure if your child is too sick for school, please feel free to contact the school nurse at 678-874-3107 or visit: https://www.choa.org/parent-resources/everyday-illnesses/too-sick-for-school. Additionally, for optimal learning readiness and immunity from cold and flu season, please be sure that your child has had plenty of rest the night before each school day. The CDC recommends 9-12 hours of sleep for elementary aged children. For more information on establishing healthy sleep habits, visit: https://www.strong4life.com/en/parenting/schedules-and-routines/healthy-sleep-habits-for-kids#how-much-sleep-do-kids-need

Partner With Us!!
This year we are preparing for STEAM recertification. and we need your support!
STEAM is an acronym for four different fields of study: science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. The purpose of a STEAM program is to build students’ capacity in each of these areas.
We are in need of community, business, and university partnerships to help support our STEAM Program.
Do you, or someone you know, work in a field that utilizes these fields of study?
Please take a moment to fill out the form if you are interested in partnering with the first STEM/STEAM certified school in the state of Georgia.
