New Digs in Stillwater...
Nothing could be truer than the statement, “It was a team effort!” when describing our new elementary school library project. When I took the job as a TOSA to become the elementary library teacher three school years ago, renovating the aged library was at the top of my pipe dream list. When I sent my principal, Rebecca Toleman (SLS Administrator of the Year 2022), a picture of a library I loved the look of, she surprisingly sent a clear message back, “Let’s look to see how we can make this happen!” Next thing I know, we got the needed approval and we were meeting with the architects and furniture suppliers, measurements were taken and we had a plan! After 2 years of planning, delayed deliveries and construction that finally happened, our refreshed library has emerged. Our students and teachers are thrilled, the parents are excited, and the Board of Education members are appreciative. Throughout the process, our goal was to make the space open, inviting, available and functional. Our floor furniture is all on wheels so our space can serve multiple purposes throughout the day. We chose to use bold colors in our space to spark some creativity. The smiles I get to see everyday as people enter our space make the long wait and all the meetings well worth it. Everyone is welcome to come see our library in person. Just drop me a line!
