GRADE UPDATES IN SYNERGY - I wanted to make sure families knew that grades will be updated this weekend. I encourage to take a look.

GRRRLZ ROCK! - Grrrlz Rock is a celebration of girls and women in the arts and there are several young men and women who are participating (members of Mest Up, The Chorduroys, Village School Marimba and others). MEASLES INFO - You may have heard that there are confirmed cases of measles in Oregon, one of them in Lane County. Measles is a serious and highly contagious disease.

Lane County Public Health has shared the following information for families of students in local schools:

Lane County has one confirmed case of measles, part of a statewide investigation related to international plane travel. Currently, there are no known links to schools or childcare facilities, but the investigation is ongoing.

We understand that parents in our area have questions about what can be done to keep children safe, and what their child’s school/childcare will do if a case of measles is confirmed at their site.

Here are some important points to keep in mind:

• Measles is highly contagious. If a single case is confirmed in a school or childcare facility, Lane County Public Health will review staff and student vaccination records to determine the risk of further spread.
• Keeping children in school/childcare is a priority. Ensuring those facilities are safe is also a priority. Measles is a serious disease. An unvaccinated child who is exposed to measles will not be allowed to go to school or childcare during the time period when they could become sick. This is usually for 21 days after exposure, but may be extended if there are more cases.
• People excluded from school or childcare after a measles exposure are asked to stay home to avoid exposing others in the community.
• Now is a great time for families to review their vaccine records and get their vaccines up to date.

More information about measles and measles immunity:

• Measles is a contagious viral disease that can spread through the air when someone sick with measles coughs or sneezes. It can also be spread by direct contact with nose discharge and spit of someone sick with measles.
• The symptoms of measles start with a fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes, followed by a red rash that usually begins on the head or face and spreads to the rest of the body.
• People are contagious with measles for four days before the rash appears and up to four days after the rash appears.
• After a susceptible person is exposed to measles, symptoms usually develop in one to two weeks but it can take up to three weeks.
• Complications of measles include ear infection, lung infection, and in rare cases, inflammation of the brain.
  • About 1 in 1000 children die of measles.
• Anyone who is not immune to measles and believes they have measles symptoms should contact their health care provider or urgent care by telephone before going in to the clinic to make arrangements to avoid exposing others to the virus.
• People vaccinated during 1963–1967 with vaccine of unknown type may have received inactivated vaccine and should be revaccinated.
• People are considered immune to measles if any of the following are true:
  • You are a pre-school age child with one measles vaccine (MMR – measles, mumps, rubella)
  • You are a school-age child (K–12) or adult who has had two measles vaccines (MMR – measles, mumps, rubella).
  • You were born before 1957.
  • You have had measles disease (diagnosed by a health care provider and confirmed with a lab test).
  • You have had a blood test that shows you are immune to measles.
• Anyone with questions about measles infection or the measles vaccine should call their primary care provider or Lane County Public Health at 541-682-4041.

New funding is coming to 4J schools. Oregon's Student Success Act is expected to provide Eugene School District 4J about $12–13 million per year starting with the 2020–21 school year—about a 5% increase in the district’s general fund budget.

The district is engaging staff, families and community members to inform the planning for how to spend these funds to best support student success. The funds must be targeted to increase academic achievement, reduce disparities among student groups, and meet students’ behavioral and mental health needs. You’re invited to join the conversation.

Inversiones para el éxito: ¡Hablemos sobre la Ley de éxito estudiantil!

Nuevos fondos están llegando a las escuelas de 4J. Se espera que la Ley de Éxito Estudiantil de Oregon proporcione al Distrito Escolar de Eugene 4J alrededor de $12–13 millones por año a partir del año escolar 2020–21. Athletics: All students interested in participating in Winter Sports. Please be aware of the following:

1. Academic Requirement: a) Students must pass 2.0 Credits in the first trimester. b) Students must be on track to graduate.Insurance Requirement: All students must have proof of insurance and provide that information in your registration materials.
2. Physical Requirement: All students must have a current physical submitted on our health department on the OSAA mandated form. (Found on OSAA.com). Note: physicals last two years.
3. Pay the participation fee to the finance office. (See Ken Pimental.)
4. Complete registration on Family ID. (Found on the CHS website.)

All of these requirements must be completed by November 13 in order to be processed in time for try-outs and official practices that begin on November 18th.
