Contingency Plans and Family Night
Dear families,
We’ve previously shared that we are negotiating a new contract with the Portland Association of Teachers (PAT), the union representing educators. A strike by PAT could close schools as early as October 30, but we remain committed to staying at the bargaining table for as long it takes to arrive at a fair, sustainable contract and keep schools open.
We write today for two reasons.
First, we want to share fuller contingency plans -- available at pps.net/strikeresources. While all schools will close, and there will be no in-person classes or online instruction, we have identified limited core services we can continue to support with our non-striking staff. We have also assembled resources to support remote learning for those who have the ability to assist their students. We invite you to review these plans and ask any questions you have.
You can also raise questions as part of tonight’s virtual family night, 5:30pm - 6:30pm.
Thanks to those of you who have submitted questions, and to those who are able to join us this evening.
