Wolf Pup Weekly
Woodriver Issue #25 2/11/22
FROM PRINCIPAL GUY
Hello Wolf Pup parents!
Our district budget came out yesterday. There are some major cuts in our district at
nearly every school. Here is a summary of the cuts being proposed at each level.
Elementary School- Our district is closing Joy, Anderson and Nordale elementary.
Moving all of next year's 6th grade students to the middle school. That means this
year’s 5th graders will be at Ryan or Randy Smith next year.
The moving of 6th grade also means that Woodriver will lose two or three teachers.
Currently Woodriver is scheduled to have 12 teachers next year. We had 19 teachers
pre-COVID and 17 teachers this year. Our enrollment is currently 435 students. Our
projected enrollment in the budget report is 339. You will notice these numbers
don’t add up. I am hoping to get some clarification from our district regarding that
projected enrollment. In the boundary shift report it had our projections at 377
students a nearly 40 student difference. With our 17 teachers this year, I was
expecting to have 14 or 15 teachers next year. I will be sure to keep you informed
after I get clarification.
Middle School- Will see their numbers increase by about 700 students. They will
be at 93-95% capacity. They will also see an increase in the number of teachers at
each of their buildings to account for the increase in students.
High School- Enrollment continues to decline and they are scheduled to lose
teachers and possibly a counselor at each high school. There is also the chance that
they lose an assistant principal. Loses will differ at each school depending on
enrollment.
All Schools- Will see a decrease to both their supply and activity budgets.
Pupil-to-Teacher Ratio (PTR)- Our district will also be using the following for
their PTR.
K-2nd=25 students per teacher.
3rd-6th=26 students per teacher.
Middle School=29 students per teacher
High School= 32 students per teacher.
Our PTR numbers continue to rise as our state fails to increase the student base
allocation to account for inflation. Almost every year prices go up and the amount
the state provides stays the same. This has contributed to this massive increase in
PTR.
