May 11th Newsletter
Thursday, May 11
As we head into the end of the school year, there are many opportunities to celebrate our student’s hard work and achievements. Our schools host year-end events, awards and recognitions, picnics, and more. You can access the district-wide calendar on the homepage of our website (and all school websites) for more information on upcoming events and celebrations.
The end of the school year can also be stressful for many of our students and families. May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, and our district has many resources to help our students and families in need. Our Pupil Services team includes school counselors, social workers, and psychologists available to provide help and guidance at each school. For a complete listing of our Pupil Services team, please access this link. Our Pupil Services team and district have also partnered with Care Solace, an organization dedicated to helping connect people to care with any coverage, including Medicaid, Medicare, and sliding scale options for those without insurance. You can reach Care Solace at 888-515-0595 or through our website.
Summer School registration is open and I encourage you to enroll your child(ren) today. Research supports that a strong summer school program can positively affect student academic achievement and provide a jump-start for the start of the school year.
In service,
Dr. Willie E. Garrison II
Superintendent, School District of Beloit

Teacher Appreciation Week
Recognizing our teachers this week was an honor and a priority for our schools, district, and community. In our buildings and classrooms, students, staff, and families celebrated our teachers in many ways. Together, we made sure our teachers know how much they are appreciated.
Our teachers received a Proclamation from the City of Beloit City Council declaring the week of May 8th through May 12th as Teacher Appreciation Week; I shared a Letter to the Editor in the Beloit Daily News; we ran an engaging social media campaign on our website, Facebook, and in our school newsletters encouraging people to nominate a teacher for recognition - we received 67 nominations and have been sharing them on Facebook all week; and we shared an appreciation card acknowledging how grateful we are to work beside each and every one of our teachers as they continue to champion, mentor, and teach or students.
SDB News
We continue to receive media coverage highlighting the great things happening in our district. Take a moment to access our SDB News and read about our Gaston Walking School Bus, BMHS Choral and Orchestra students, BMHS Jazz Orchestra and their trip to Essentially Ellington, new Narcan kits in our buildings, Teacher Appreciation Week, and much more.
