Today, our ASB team held its annual Spring Sports rally to celebrate our students and kick off the spring sports Hacienda Season. We had performances from our dance, color guard, and a special Cheer/Staff Dance combo! We also had the opportunity to recognize all of our Spring Sports teams. A big shoutout to our Athletes, Coaches, and ASB crew. We love celebrating our student-athletes. They deserve it!

🏆 The 2023 March Madness Ankle Taping Championship was held on Monday at lunch! 32 contestants started on March 2 and over the last 3 weeks it was narrowed down to TWO! Watch the video to see the final showdown that happened today during lunch!

Congrats to Matthew Hsu for winning the competition and all our Sports Med students who competed and had fun along the way.

On March 15, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune announced its All-Area Basketball teams for the 2022-2023 season. Coach Joe Khouzam headlined the awards as the San Gabriel Valley Boys Basketball Coach of the Year. Coach Khouzam led his team to a 28-3 record as the Mustangs made it to the CIF Quarterfinals and earned a Hacienda League Championship.

Seniors Joby Barnes and Malik Khouzam earned first-team all-area honors. Joe Khouzam was also named the CIF 2A Coach of the Year. Malik Khouzam was named first-team All-CIF and Joby Barnes was named second-team all-CIF. You can read more about the Boys All-Area team by CLICKING HERE.

Jolleen Olia led our Girls Basketball team this year and was named First Team All-Area with Maileeh Suasti named Second Team All-Area. You can read more about the Girls All-Area team by CLICKING HERE.

On March 22, our Dance team had the opportunity to perform during halftime in front of hundreds of fans at the Ontario Clippers NBA G-League Matchup against the Memphis Hustlers. The game was held inside the Toyota Arena in Ontario. It was an excellent experience for our girls!

This year, the Walnut High School Competitive Stunt Cheer team became a new spring sport at Walnut High School, allowing young women athletes to compete in one of the fastest-growing female sports in the country.

For competitions, each stunt team gets four routines that every program learns. Teams compete at a game with a referee, where the teams compete side by side. They receive scores based on various factors, including execution, technique, degree of difficulty, and ability to lead and inspire a crowd and then are given a score. At the end of the match, the team with the highest score wins!

Our cheer team is currently 2-1 in Hacienda League play. Congrats Girls! Keep up the great work!

The Hoofprint's annual "switch" issue is out now where roles and positions on staff changed to give students an opportunity to try different roles. The staff box and bylines reflect those "switches." Thank you to all students who were interviewed and to staff members who allowed students to be interviewed, passed out appointment cards, shared our surveys with students or were interviewed themselves. We appreciate your support very much.

The Walnut High School Girls Volleyball Program will be hosting their 2nd Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Los Serranos Golf Club.

This event raises vital funds to support our girls volleyball program. These funds will be used to purchase much needed equipment, tournament fees, transportation, meals, and a supportive coaching staff to help them succeed on the court.

Our goal is to always provide a safe instructive environment for all of our athletes to learn and develop skills to be a better volleyball player, but more importantly, a productive member of society, as well as fielding a competitive program.

In order to continue to make this experience a reality for our program, we are reaching out directly to area businesses, family, and friends, and offering the opportunity to help by becoming a sponsor.

Included in this letter is a brochure with a variety of sponsorship packages for you to review as well as details about the tournament. All donations to our volleyball program are tax-deductible. The Academic Design Program (ADP) is a standards-based, integrated approach to learning. Using the Design-Based Learning methodology, Social Science and English are brought together as the students work through real-world problems in search of real-world solutions. Students will engage with the content through creativity and collaboration in order to build a mind-body connection with the material they learn. In the Spring of 2024, Walnut High School will be evaluated for accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). WASC accreditation shows our school meets high standards for operating a quality program. WASC accreditation is an ongoing cycle, including an initial self-study process, creating a schoolwide plan, and hosting evaluation visits. An accredited school is a statement to the broader community and the stakeholders that it is a trustworthy institution for student learning and committed to ongoing improvement.

It is imperative that we hear from all stakeholders, teachers, students, parents, community members, support, and district staff, as we set improvement goals through this reflective process. To reach that goal, we have created an electronic parent survey. Please take the time to complete the survey below and assist us in setting plans to make WHS the best school possible.

Students will be subject to disciplinary action when a student has been absent from class without a valid excuse. All absences must be cleared within one (1) school day after the last date of absence. The preferred method for clearing absences is via parent/guardian phone calls to the attendance office.

Parents must call the attendance office the day their student is absent as early as possible or within two school days of an absence, at the latest. Messages may also be left. Please clearly state the student's first and last name, guardian name, dates or class periods absent, and reason for the absence.

A reminder email and robocall are sent to the parent on the day of the absence. If uncleared, the office will make a courtesy call the following day.

When parents do not call within the two school days, the absences are counted as truant and referred to the GLC. We will not accept late phone calls.

Class of 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027 students should have received an email from their GLC via Sign Up Genius with a link to select their summer registration appointment.

Parents, please coordinate with your student your preferred date and time! Preferably, sibling appointments should be selected on the same day. Sibling appointments will not be made for you.

Registration appointments will be held from July 5 - July 28.

IMPORTANT: Student schedules will be created in June based on their course request selections. There is no benefit or drawback to selecting the first summer or last appointments; please set the appointment time that best fits your schedule. Summer appointments are to review schedules, check for scheduling mistakes, and to ensure that your student is taking the most appropriate courses for their grade level and post-secondary plans. Teacher change requests will not be honored.

Due to many problems and safety issues we DO NOT allow student lunches to be delivered anywhere on campus.

Food, drinks or other items are NOT to be passed to students through the fence. This is strictly prohibited.

Outside Food Delivery Services such as UBER Eats/Door Dash is strictly prohibited. Food will be confiscated if deliveries are dropped off.

We understand the importance of student nutrition but we encourage students to either use the free lunch at school or bring their lunch from home.

During summer registration, students and their guardians watched the rules and expectations video for the upcoming school year. If you did not have a chance to watch it, please take a minute to view the video to help you be successful this year!

Parents: One thing you will notice this year are tardy or cell phone detention automated emails. If your child was issued a detention for excessive tardies or a cell phone violation, you will get an email with information on the detention they need to serve.

Students must attend every class, every day, and be on time. In order to receive daily credit, students are to bring all necessary materials to class. Students will not be excused from class to get materials. Homework and class assignments are to be completed on time and to the best of the student’s ability. Only behaviors befitting the learning environment are acceptable. Students are to comply with all reasonable requests of any staff member. Dress code will be enforced.
