NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 1 | 21 JULY 2022
Dear Parents and Staff
As I’ve greeted children and their families back to school at the front gate this week, it has been wonderful to hear about their holidays. I am envious of the many who took the opportunity to head to the north of our state to enjoy the beautiful weather and the peaceful, relaxing surroundings. We are so fortunate to live in such an amazing place with so many diverse environments to explore. My break was nowhere as exciting as that experienced by so many of you, with a lot of my time spent catching my breath after the busyness of the first Semester and planning for the great things that we have this Term and next. With Confirmation, NAIDOC Week, Performing Arts, Book Week, Night of the Notables, Awesome Aussies, Interschool Cross Country, Junior Athletics Carnival, Edu-Dance and Mercy Day there is plenty to look forward to. In amongst all of this we will ensure the same quality of teaching across the curriculum is maintained so that the children continue to grow in all aspects of their learning.
Today you should have received a letter co-signed by the heads of the public, Catholic and Independent education sectors regarding encouraging everyone in our school to wear masks as a preventative measure against the spread of the new Covid-19 subvariants which appear to be very contagious. Whilst the wearing of masks is strongly recommended in this communication, it is important to remember that the choice to do this currently remains with you and that decision will be respected by all of our staff. Please take the time to carefully read the communication so that you are fully informed about this issue.

KINDY GATE
As advised last Term, the Kindergarten gate near Oswell St will not be open before and after school to allow staff to complete preparation for the day’s activities. Please note that the administration carpark is not a drop off or pick up zone and the area will be cordoned off should parents continue to use it as such.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE
Whilst, earlier in my report, I expressed my envy of those who managed to travel during the recent holidays, my turn is not far away as I will be taking the last week of this Term and the first two weeks of next Term as Long Service Leave. During this time, I will be travelling to the UK to visit my daughter who I haven’t seen for the past four years.
I am very pleased that Mrs Daniela Boyle has been appointed to replace me during this absence. Daniela is an exceptional educator and leader, and I am very happy that the school will be in such capable hands.

KINDY NEWS
Drama
During Term 2 we enjoyed weekly drama sessions with Mrs Miller in which we were encouraged to use our imagination to be various creatures and to show different emotions. We explored bears and the story of ‘Going On A Bear Hunt’. We pretended to open a present and showed the emotions we would use when this happened. We read Possum Magic and acted out parts of the story.Pyjama Day
In June we wore our pyjamas to school and donated a gold coin to remind us how lucky we are at home and we thought of others who are not so fortunate. The donations went to St Vincent de Paul to assist homeless people. Mr Winsor read us a story of the Cranky Bear.English
We are continuing to learn new letter sounds that we commenced last term. We made kites for the sound Kk and we flew them on the oval. For the sound Ee we did elastic band activities and for the sound of Uu, we made umbrellas and had underwater fun!
Maths
In Maths we have been working on our number knowledge through games and activities. We put numbers in order, measured items with blocks and used play dough to make numbers and shapes. We also explored positional language such as under, on top of, between and next to and sorting objects according to their attributesIntegrated Studies and Religion
In Religion we looked at relationships and in particular people in our lives we can trust. We read Koala Lou and looked at the special relationship between the two koalas.
Near the end of term, we experienced an incursion about science called Einsteins' Australia.
We explored sensory science by making slime, snow and reactions. We had icky sticky fingers, made volcanos with bubbles that foamed and climbed and watched our snow expand.
