We need your students in-school (hybrid or remote) to learn! Kids being present is simply the most critical component to a students’ academic success. It is our goal to support your student and family in making sure that your student is present and active in their education daily, both synchronously and asynchronously. In accordance with the D303 Discipline Procedures Handbook we have created this “At-a-Glance” reference sheet for excused and unexcused absences.

Examples of Excused Absences:

• Illness (3 consecutive days may require a physician's note)

• Medical/dental appointments

• Required state/county court appointments

• Serious family emergency (i.e. funeral, family illness)

• Special requests from parents (vacations, sporting events) (pre-arranged with administration)

Examples of Unexcused Absences:

• Oversleeping

• Excused per mom/dad with no reason

• Missing the bus/ride

• Sore from a XXX camp, practice, or game

• Mental Health Day, “personal” day, stressed, working remotely

• Car trouble

• Needing sleep/rest

• Family vacations, Sporting Events- that have not been given prior approval

• Arriving 10 minutes after the beginning of school/leaving 10 minutes before the end of the day without "excused" reasons

Please note that it is not unusual for students to have an unexcused absence. It is really once you hit several unexcused days that we address the issue.

Should a Wredling staff member contact you regarding absenteeism or tardiness, it is imperative that you communicate with them. Staff members will guide you to reengaging your student in learning. We know that times are challenging right now, we are happy to help reengage your student and support your family. Let us know how we can help!

Monday, November 9, 2020 is a Remote Learning Planning Day for staff and a non-attendance day for students. During the time that District 303 staff members are engaged in their learning, students have the opportunity to use this day to work on assignments or to engage in optional learning experiences that the district has created.

Please visit the website D303 Optional Remote Learning For Students to access this resource. The website houses a variety of optional learning experiences in the areas of math, digital citizenship, English Language Arts, college and career, virtual field trips, STEM, and social-emotional learning. Although these optional learning experiences were designed for use on Remote Learning Planning Days, students are welcome to engage in the learning experiences on the website at any time.

Can you consider donating a toy or two to Big Hearts of Fox Valley? This organization is highly supportive of students in D303! Any gifts you might donate would be appreciated. Contact them directly (see image below for contact information), or there is a box in the WMS lobby to drop things off in.

Yearbook had a record number of great submissions this year for the 4th annual WMS Yearbook Cover Contest. Thank you to all who submitted an entry! Congratulations to Deetya Solanki for winning the 4th annual WMS Cover Contest! Her cover art is included here. All contest submissions will be featured in the yearbook.

This week's theme is Halloween and/or Twin Day. Please submit pictures from school or home of WMS students in their twin outfits or costumes to share with Yearbook Club.

D303 has clear expectations that all middle school students wear their IDs at all times. If a student does not have an ID, they will need to purchase a new one for $5 in the LRC. The $5 will be charged to your child's PushCoin account. This can add up very quickly if a student does not have their ID several times. Please talk to your child about showing responsibility by wearing his/her ID/lanyard at all times, and understand the financial implications of having to buy replacement ID/lanyards.

• Students received 1 ID and can get 1 additional ID for free.
• Students received 1 lanyard and can get 1 additional lanyard for free.

You can check the attendance for any of your students at any time by logging into the Home Access Center and clicking on the attendance tab to view. Toggle between students using the arrow in the upper right hand corner.

Parent University was developed in response to the need for programming to address the social and emotional needs of students in District 303. Over the last decade, the district has strived to provide information on topics that are relevant, timely, and beneficial for all parents and guardians.

Join us for three Parent University sessions to help you familiarize yourself with the digital platforms teachers use in the district: Seesaw, Google Classroom, and Schoology. Each digital platform will have its own 30-minute session. Sessions will be organized as follows:

Seesaw- 7:00-7:30

Google Classroom-7:30-8:00

Schoology- 8:00-8:30
