A Message from the Principal
It was wonderful to see so many students and families this morning! The first day of school always goes by quickly, particularly when it is a half-day. Today, students and staff began actively building classroom community, which is an important piece in ensuring students are ready to learn, establish new relationships, and feel confident about a new school year.
As a reminder, we will have some structures in place for students to cool off throughout the upcoming warm days. We strongly encourage all students to come to school with a reusable water bottle as well. Thank you for your help with this.
Additionally, a special thank you goes out to our Greeley PTO for helping ensure our morning welcome was a warm and festive one.
Here's to a school year of learning, growth, and fun!
Sincerely,
Joshua Swanner
Principal
After School Elective Opportunities
We expect to have a catalog of fall electives, with registration links, made available by September 18th, if not sooner. Please stay tuned for more information.
Repeating: Car Pick-up and Drop-Off Procedures
The following information on pick-up and drop-off procedures is for new and returning families alike. Your help and support in following these procedures is the number one pathway to a quick and safe process.
- Cars must enter the drop-off/pick-up line on Fairview Ave. from Elder Ln (both eastbound and westbound)
- When pulling into the "cut-out" on Fairview, please be sure to pull all the way up (this helps us move a greater volume of vehicles)
- Please do not get out of your car; we have staff to open doors for children and help them out
- Staff are also on hand to assist and direct children safely in the morning
- Please use the above procedures only unless special arrangements are made with the school
- When walking, make sure to cross on the corners of Fairview Ave., where a crossing guard is stationed to ensure the safety of our families
- Each year, these procedures are reviewed in collaboration with the Winnetka Police Department. We are proud of the speed at which we can safely get families on their way, but we also recognize these times may vary due to inclement weather, special events, etc. If you are having difficulties with this process, please reach out to the main office to discuss at (847) 446-6060.
Note: The first few days of school are often some of the busiest in terms of traffic. Families are quite welcome to take photos, visit the school grounds, etc. Be sure to park and walk to the school if this is the case.
Strings Announcement
Welcome back to all!
If your child is new to the program and you DO NOT have an instrument at home, OR, if you would like to rent a 2nd instrument, one for home and school, please come to the Washburne Cafeteria on Wednesday, September 6 anytime between 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Representatives from Quinlan and Fabish will be on hand to walk you through the process.
If your child plays cello/bass at Skokie or Washburne, they will have the opportunity to rent an instrument from the school district for $150. for the entire year. I highly recommend that you have another instrument at home for your child to practice on.
If your child feels that they have outgrown their instrument over the summer, I would like to see them at their first lesson/class before the next size is rented or purchased.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
