Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We would like to continue to share the achievements of our students during this uncertain time. Each week we will include new ideas for student challenges to do at home, nominations of students who we are celebrating in each subject, and updates from the home learning team. If you have done a piece of work you are really proud of, or have completed one of our challenges and would like to share it in Snapshot next week, please email this to homelearning@corbytechnicalschool.org with the title of the email being 'Snapshot', including a short description of your work, and we will choose a selection to share.

Nominations:

Maths:


Nominated this week are Year 8 students Robert, Melissa and Dylan for not only completing their assignments to a fantastic standard last week but also attempting an challenging follow-up extension task.


English:


Year 9 students - Milana, Daniel, Klaudia, Jenna L, Kian, Alfie, Sammah and Brandon W are nominated for a good understanding and analysis of the poem in their poetry assignment.

Year 10 student Shay - for always being the first to hand his assignment in.

Year 10 Drama students Tamsyn Marli Zak and Aston, for being really effective in completing their assignments this week.


Humanities:


The following Year 10 students have been nominated for achieving 100% scores in their most recent assignments: Carmen, Patryk, Lily and Katie,


Science:


This week Science have nominated the following for their hard work: Year 10 students Shay, Ana, Dragos, Jude and Aiden. Also nominated are Year 8 students Harry E, Oliver P, Isabella, Todd and Olivier J.


MFL:


Year 7 students Maya, Miranda, Jakub and Mariyah for perfect plenary quiz and excellent effort in Spanish.


Design and Technology:


Nominated this week is Year 8 Olivier for his outstanding effort on his art booklet. Above and beyond on the amount of work he has done – really amazing. Also nominated are Miss Blencowe's Year 7 Art students who have all clearly put in a lot of effort, and I am super impressed with them all!

Year 9 Denisa did extremely well in last week’s assignment – 20/20 – and lots of other Year 9’s did very well in fact overall, their best home learning week yet and it made Miss Blencowe very happy! Super work Year 9 Food!


PE - Virtual Sports Day


The PE department would like to thank all students and families who took part in the Virtual School Sports Day over the school break. There were some fantastic entries, and it is great to see our students keeping fit and active.

Please make sure you watch the whole school assembly that will be posted in the tutor teams this week, as this is when the results will be announced.

Home Learning Nomination

Following the Virtual School's Challenge, Year 7 student Oliver poem and Freddie (Year 7) and Nive's (Year 9) mini movie have made it into the top 10 and the Dragons will make their final decision shortly. Thank you to everyone who took part. MIss Buffini really enjoyed seeing all the entries.

Year 7 student Harry E has been going above and beyond with work for DT and Art since the start of lockdown, and just being extra brilliant.

In addition to this he has also been keeping MIss Blencowe in the loop regarding his new bedroom design which he has been working on himself. He had produced all the ideas and colour scheme and is going to be having some professional graffiti done as well.

His energy, motivation and enthusiasm deserves a special mention. It is also safe to say that he has cheered us up as well with all his amazing efforts.

Snapshot Student Challenges

Each week we will be setting you some extra challenges on Snapshot to do at home. Send us pictures of your successes to: homelearning@corbytechnicalschool.org to share in our next edition.

Life Skills Challenge

Budgeting! Liaise with the adults in your house to write a list of all the monthly outgoings for a standard household. Work out a budget to discover how much you will need to earn as an adult per month in order to pay your bills and to have the lifestyle you desire!

Creative Commission

Choose a word that you love, and produce an illustrated version of the word for a picture dictionary. Include the word in the picture somehow.

Enrichment Inspiration

Go for a walk and see how many different kinds of birds you can see or hear. If you’re not sure what kind of bird it is, check the bird identifier from the RSPB here: https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/wildlife-guides/identify-a-bird/

Focus Feature

This week the focus is on our MFL department. This is what the team have been doing during the lockdown:

Miss Hurtado-Lopez has watched "Merlí". It is a TV show set in a secondary school in Catalonia, Spain. The show is about a philosophy teacher who encourages his students to think freely. I especially enjoyed it because I have missed school life very much during lockdown. I cried, laughed and learnt a few things. I would recommend you to watch it, but remember to change the language settings into Spanish, otherwise you would be watching it in Catalan!

You may have seen Mrs Tams in school with some cakes every now and then as she loves to bake as a hobby. Over the last few weeks she has been baking to keep myself busy, she has made cupcakes for a friend’s children and a huge chocolate birthday cake for her husband. Mrs Tams has also been watching Nailed it! is an American reality series where three amateur bakers compete to replicate complicated cakes. On Netflix you can see the Nailed It! Germany series, I find it brilliant to watch because it’s people like me who bake for fun, following recipes they’ve never tried before, with some really disastrous outcomes! It’s funny, sometimes silly and easy to watch. You can watch the first series with English subtitles (remember they are German people so they speak pretty fast!) and it’s well worth a watch if you want to see something new that is fun and not too serious!

Miss Graziano - Like Mrs Tams, I too love baking. So I have been watching Nailed It! Mexico. It is one of the funniest baking programmes! However, my favourite Spanish series that I have been binging is called Gran Hotel. I watched a few episodes when I lived in Spain but now it is all on Netflix. It is the epitome of a Spanish telenovela (soap) and there is so much drama – I love it! It reminds me of Downton Abbey a little bit, and I love watching period dramas like this. I am really impressed by just how many Spanish films and TV series are available on Netflix, Amazon Prime and even on Youtube! There are some suggestions below of what you could be watching on each in Spanish, but remember to put English subtitles on because they sometimes speak super fast and in difficult accents to understand (like the Spanish equivalent to Glaswegian)! Plus, watching with the English subtitles is proven to help your listening and comprehension skills in another language. There are so many to choose from so get watching and let us know what your favourite is!
