Hello Springwater Students and Families,

The 22-23 school year is right around the corner! We had an extremely successful summer program at STHS. We hosted both Springwater and Sam Barlow students and I am really proud of all of our students who jumped in and caught up on credit! In this Principal update you will find pertinent information about the upcoming school year. We are excited to welcome a new group of Titans at our 9th grade academy later this month. We are also keeping our fingers crossed that we will be able to continue to expand our activities outside of the building and return to those memorable experiences that left us during the first two years of COVID: trips to Portland Center Stage and the International Film Festival, habitat restoration within our community, and career exploration trips, to name just a few.

We are excited to announce that we adopted a new form of school-to-home communication at GBSD. ParentSquare is designed to keep parents informed and facilitate participation at school. It provides a safe way for the school principal, teachers, staff, and parents/guardians to:

• Send and receive school and class information
• Share pictures and files
• See calendar items
• Sign up to volunteer
• Complete and submit permission slips
• and much more . . . all in one centralized place!

What do parents need to do?

School/grade level and classroom communication will now be sent to your computer or phone via email and/or text or you can download the free App.

Parent Verification for the 2022-2023 School Year is now open!

Before the beginning of every school year, we request that parents/guardians review and/or update their family and student information.

Keeping your family's information up to date is crucial to receiving timely communication from Springwater Trail High School and Gresham-Barlow School District and ensures that you can be contacted in case of an emergency. This year all updates can be done online through your ParentVUE account.

After logging in to ParentVUE, click on the "Online Registration" tab in the top right-hand corner to start the verification process.

Mark your calendars! School pictures are scheduled for Wednesday, September 21st. All students will get their picture taken even if they are not ordering a portrait package. Picture retake day is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2nd.

School Supplies

There is not a single required high school supply list. Our suggestion is that your student come the first day prepared with charged chromebook, paper, a three ring notebook, pen and pencil. Teachers will talk about specific needs for their individual classes.

We highly recommend a TI-30X IIS calculator for any student who is taking math. We recommend each student purchase their own calculator but we will provide one for students to use at school if they do not have their own.

STHS is providing all students with free planners! We strongly encourage students to develop a system for tracking assignments and due dates for their classes.

A new Free/Reduced Lunch Application must be filled out each school year. Applications are available now at https://www.ode.state.or.us/apps/frlapp. All applications will be processed at the Sodexo Food Services office. Questions should be directed to 503-261-4590.

We work hard to build consistent communication between school and home throughout the school year. Here is a summary of the communication resources available to Springwater families this year:

● Class Assignments and Assignment Grades (CANVAS)

Later this month, GBSD will be releasing the much-anticipated CANVAS ParentApp. This app will allow parents to see their student's classes, assignment grades, and upcoming assignments. We will share more information as soon as it becomes available!

● Progress Report Grades and Semester Grades are available online in StudentVue/ParentVue. Contact the office if you need help logging in to your account.

● Stay Up-To-Date!

The Springwater newsletter (Principal's Update) is emailed to students and families a minimum of every month. It is also available on our website.

We also post updates to social media. Time-sensitive information will be shared via email and phone messages.

● Parent Conferences

Fall Parent Conferences – Evening of November 22nd and the morning November 23rd.

● Staff Voicemail / Email

-Every teacher and staff member has voice mail where parents can leave a message. Call the main office at 503.261.4600 to be connected to a staff's voicemail box.

-All staff are connected to e-mail and check it daily. Staff addresses are listed on the STHS website and within ParentVue.

Good communication can prevent misunderstandings and confusion. Please call or email your student’s teacher if you have questions or concerns. Thanks in advance for your help -- it truly does take a village!
