DIA DE MUERTOS ALTAR
All classrooms will have an opportunity to visit the altar this week from Nov. 1-4.
Different cultures grieve and treat death differently. Día de Muertos or Day of the Dead is a tradition celebrated differently across Mexico, Central America, and South America. In Mexican culture, this day is a lively celebration of color, music, food, and traditions that acknowledges those that are no longer with us. This tradition gets confused with Halloween but it is not Halloween.
In Central and South America, Dia de Los Muertos is usually a day to visit a loved one's gravesite, tidy up, and leave objects such as flowers or favorite food items. A home altar isn't usually made like in Mexican culture.
We would like to provide a note of appreciation to the Co-Chairs of CHC, Hilda Ordaz and Noemí Barajas, for working so hard on providing this experience to all our students. And thank you to the other wonderful volunteers, Sarah Ewell, Maria Alex Cobian Alvardo, and Beatriz Soto (we might have missed someone) along with Hilda and Noemí that helped to bring the altar together at the school auditorium.
