Dear Methacton Families and Community,
Another short week to ease us back into the New Year, Happy 2024!!
The athletics office would like to shout out our HS girls soccer team. Last week, the Girls Soccer team was officially honored by the United Soccer Coaches Association as one of 72 high school fall boys and girls teams across the nation to receive their Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award for demonstrating fair play, sporting behavior, and continually showing respect to other teams, coaches, and officials. We are the only team from the Pioneer Athletic Conference to be recognized this year.
This is the 12th season in a row the Girls Soccer team has received national recognition with this award!

Off-Season Announcements
HS Boys Lacrosse: The boys lacrosse team will be hosting indoor practices on January 13th and January 20th from 12:15 - 1:30pm at the ASC Training Center in Collegeville. If your student athlete would like to attend, there is a mandatory waiver that needs to be filled out and returned to the coach: Coach Pannella - rpannella@methacton.org, you can also reach out to him directly with any questions.
Boys Basketball
The Warriors had a competitive week of basketball. The Warriors played North Penn and won with a score of 66-43. Mason Conard played very hard and competed in the game with 14 points.
The next game the Boys Basketball team played was Wissahickon. After quite the battle, the Warriors won 61-49. Christian Matos was a key contributor for the team with 26 points.
We look forward to another competitive week and challenges ahead with Owen J. Roberts and Spring-Ford this week. Go Warriors!

Girls Basketball
The Lady Warriors traveled to Wildwood to participate in the Boardwalk Basketball Classic at the Wildwood Convention Center. The first game was against Nazareth Academy, where they were defeated by a score of 58-45. Abby Arnold was the leading scorer with 27 points. The next day, the warriors played Conwell Egan and were defeated by a score of 62-50. Again, Abby Arnold was the leading scorer with 23 points, and junior Jenna Kauffman added 12 points. The Warriors are currently 0-9 overall and have an 0-2 record in the league. No JV contests occurred to report.
This week, the Lady Warriors host OJR on Wednesday at 5:30 and 7 pm, and will travel to Spring Ford on Friday night, with JV at 5:30 and V at 7 pm. Both of these games are league contests.

Cheerleading
The Warrior Varsity Cheerleaders were hard at work over the break to prepare for the District 1 Championship this Saturday at Central Bucks South. The team is excited to take their shot at earning a bid to States in Hershey- they would love a big crowd! They perform at 2:59 on Saturday- come out and join their family and friends to cheer them on!

Girls Winter Track
The Girls Track and Field team competed in two meets over the Winter Break - both resulting in additional Meet of Champion qualifiers and medal winners.
On Wednesday, Dec 20, the Lady Warriors traveled to Lehigh University for a non-relay meet. Coming away with 6 "Top Ten" finishes and 3 MOC qualifying marks. Summer Mellow had two of those marks, winning the Long Jump with a State Qualifying performance of 17' 10" and finishing second in the 60m dash with another State Qualifying performance of 7.90 seconds. Fellow Senior Kate Thomas etched her name as one of the Meet of Champion qualifiers with a 6th place performance in the 800m with a time of 2:25.55. Kenslee O'Donnell's 10.14 second 60m hurdle time, good enough for a 5th place finish, was just .04 seconds off of the MOC qualifying mark. Rounding out the top 10 finishers were Soleil Bond-Johnson placing 9th in the High Jump (4' 7") and Nicole Walsh placing 9th in the Triple Jump (30' 11.25").
On Thursday, December 28, the Girls returned to Lehigh for the annual Burdette Invitational. Due to injuries, vacations and illness, the team was limited in their participants, but that did not deter them from earning a few more medals and another MOC qualifier. Senior Molly Thomas placed 2nd in the 3000m run with a MOC performance of 11:18.24. Kenslee O'Donnell improved her performance in the 60M Hurdles, also qualifying for the MOC, with a 6th place performance of 10.03 seconds. A couple of near misses to the MOC, but outstanding performances were by Sydney Young in the Pole Vault (5th at 8' 0") and Soleil Bond-Johnson in the High Jump (6th at 4' 10"). The 4x200 Relay of Nicole Walsh, Jillian McTamney, Kenslee O'Donnell and Summer Mellow placed 3rd and improved their MOC performance with a time of 1:50.01. The Distance Medley team of Juliana Trigone, Eva Rojas, Sadie Fitch and Ashley Hermus also took home third place medals with a time of 14:30.65.
The girls will make their way to Penn State University this weekend to compete in the Kevin Dare Invitational in hopes of locking in more State Qualifying performances.

Boys Swimming
The team practiced hard over the winter break and are looking forward to two tough matches this week. The first match-up is against local rival Plymouth Whitemarsh HS and the second match-up is against league opponent, Norristown HS (this was rescheduled from earlier in the season).
We look forward to a competitive week to kick off the New Year!

Wrestling
The Methacton wrestlers recently competed at the 35-team Neil Turner Holiday Classic Wrestling Tournament at Conestoga Valley High School in Lancaster, PA. Five Warrior wrestlers made the awards podium as the team finished the eleventh place with 98.5 team points.
Finishing in fifth place were Ryan Hayes at 127 pounds and Matty Shumaker at 160 pounds. Dylan Pachik and Gabe Franks finished in sixth place at 215 pounds and 285 pounds, respectively. Rounding out the Warrior medalists was Joey Simko with a seventh place finish at 133 pounds.
Other Methacton wrestlers notching victories but falling short of the awards stand were Brayden Giovinco (121 pounds), Shane McQuaid (139 pounds), Joe Civitello (152 pounds), Gavin Rose (172 pounds) and Collin O'Neill (189 pounds).
This week the Warriors open their Pioneer Athletic Conference season when the travel to Norristown Area on Thursday night. The JV's start at 6:30 pm with the varsity to follow.

Unified Bocce
The Unified Bocce team continues to prepare for their season with their first match on January 9th!
The team is looking forward to hosting Upper Merion in the main gym at 3:00 on January 9th.
This will also be Methacton Unified Alumni Day. Any Methacton alumni that was a member of the Unified Bocce team last year or ANY of Unified Track teams are encouraged to attend to be recognized.
Please come out and support the Warriors Unified Bocce Team!
