Hello, Longwood Families!
August is here! Mr. Munoz and his team has done an incredible job preparing our school for the new year. It looks beautiful! Mrs. Jardines and Mrs. Meunier are very busy in the office finalizing registration for all of our families. We appreciate your help with getting this process finalized for your family. Our playground and blacktop are ready for play! Did you spot the brand new basketball hoop? Join us this Wednesday, August 9th for our Back to School Night at the Blacktop and Playground! Popsicles, games, recess equipment, and other fun surprises will be available between 6:00-7:30pm. We look forward to seeing you!

FREE Daily Breakfast & Lunch for All!
Dear Parent or Guardian:
We are pleased to inform you that Longwood Elementary School will be implementing a new option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2023-2024 school year.
What does this mean for you and your children attending the school(s) identified above?
Great news for you and your students! All enrolled students at Longwood Elementary School are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household each day of the school year. No further action is required of you. Your child(ren) will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit an application.
This program only applies to the School Nutrition Program. If you would like to apply for a fee waiver, please visit https://www.ipsd.org/Page/2624 to complete an application.

Thank you to the many families who have already registered their children for the upcoming school year! As you know, our numbers can greatly impact the number of sections and teachers for each grade level, so we appreciate your help in getting your child(ren) registered as soon as possible.

Free/Reduced Meal - Applications no longer needed. For the 2023-24 School Year, all Longwood Students are eligible for free breakfast and free lunch each day!
Health Exam & Immunization information can be found HERE If you haven't already done so, be sure to schedule and complete your child's health exam and immunization requirements. Documents can be uploaded to ParentVue. All records must be on file by October 16th.

Meet the New Members of our Pride
Ms. Maria Purpura, 3rd Grade
Ms. Brittany Boling, 3rd Grade
Ms. Boling joins the Longwood team with 9 years of experience as a primary grade teacher from Homer Glen and Hazel Crest School Districts. Ms. Boling is a graduate of Illinois State University with a degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education as well as an endorsement in Reading and a Special Education certification. Ms. Boling is passionate about empowering students to pursue their passions and curiosities, set and exceed their academic and personal goals, while safeguarding the excitement and wonder found in learning.
Ms. Kristin Grapenthien, 5th Grade
Mr. Wayne Anderson, 5th Grade
Over the past fifteen years, Mr. Anderson has taught third, fourth, and fifth grades for Beach Park School District, Chicago Public Schools, and, most recently, Plainfield School District 202. Mr. Anderson received his Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Depaul University. Before becoming a teacher, Mr. Anderson was a carpenter. He and his wife have a 12-year-old dog named Molly and have been renovating a 102-year-old farmhouse in Elburn.
Ms. Courtney LaShure, Project Arrow
Ms. LaShure is thrilled to begin her 18th year of teaching with the Longwood team. Ms. LaShure has a Bachelor of arts degree in Elementary Education from Elmhurst University and a Masters Degree in Reading Education from Concordia University. Encouraging her students to grow and learn from their mistakes is her greatest passion. When she is not teaching, Ms. LaShure enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading and learning about topics of interest, traveling to Arizona to visit relatives, making her favorite meals and hosting get togethers.
Ms. Tatiana Diaz, Art
Ms. Briana Iwans, Art
Ms. Iwans is starting her fifth-year teaching elementary level art. She loves creating, especially 3D arts such as fibers and ceramics. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her puppy Callie, and reading a good book or play games with friends. She just got married so will soon be Mrs. Turska officially. She is super excited to join the IPSD 204 community and help every student find the artist in them
Ms. Kristen Murray, Music
Mrs. Murray is in her 13th year of teaching and 6th in District 204. Having received her bachelor’s from Millikin University and master’s from Michigan State University, she has worked as a choir director at the high school level in district 204 and is looking forward to transitioning to elementary. Kristen lives in Batavia with her husband Matt, daughter Hannah, and dog Abbey. She enjoys songwriting, reading, running and attempts to cook. She is excited to join the Longwood team!
