MB CAMP NEWS
Marching Band Show Music
In one week we have had so many exciting things happen for our students. The brass and the woodwinds have been given access to their show music for the 2022 marching band program. They should access their Google Classroom for their PDF part, and an mp3 of the music for their instrument. This mp3 is a real helpful tool to practice along to or to just hear what you are supposed to sound like as an individual.
Percussion music is getting wrapped up this weekend. I imagine sometime next week percussion will have full access. And probably in next week's newsletter, students will get access to a full mp3 of the whole show, along with a title and theme!
This newsletter is going to cover a few topics: prop building, uniform fitting schedules and physician physicals. Keep reading.
INSTRUMENT CHECK OUT
Come to the south-east corner of the campus. There is a bus loop you'll find, the bus loop is adjacent to a double wide metal door. That door will be propped open with a music stand so you can enter the band room directly.
We almost have everyone done, a few brass players that could still pick up an instrument, and if either sousaphone player wants to pick a sousa up - I know you already have a tuba, so you'll be fine just practicing on tuba at home. Reach out to a friend if you cannot pick it up, to see if someone close to you can. If not, email me at eparker@cvsd.org to schedule a better time
This would be for any brass or woodwind players who did not get an instrument when school got out, including incoming freshman and new band students! I would encourage you to email me to let me know you are coming, no matter when that might be.

BEING A BAND AND COLORGUARD PARENT
I am the Ridgeline Band's Propmaster but nobody knows where I came from so let me answer that first. My name is B.J Keogh. I graduated from CVHS in 1992. I am often referred to by the rest of the staff as a reformed choir kid and I suppose it's accurate as that was my passion at CV and I don't read music as well as most band kids. I am often reminded of that. Thankfully I am in no way responsible for how your students sound.
My daughter was a flute player at CVHS starting in 2010. She marched all 4 years! As we showed up more and got involved with the program I quickly found my place. At the time I had just left the construction trade as a Project Manager for a new career at Kaiser Aluminum. I am a carpenter by trade but have a range of skills in the art of building and fabrication that give me a leg up in the world of prop building. I helped stabilize some props that first year and became the volunteered Propmaster in 2011. The students and staff made a goal and I was there to help them achieve that.
I spent the next 10 years volunteering as part of the marching band design staff at CVHS helping to build a world that transformed the football field in to a stage. After seeing the joy and sense of accomplishment from the students, staff, and parents over the years, I just couldn't leave after my daughter graduated in 2014. I wanted to help other kids get to feel the way mine felt winning on and off the field.
It did come across my mind that someday a parent will come along and want this job and I will need to step down at that time. And for the record I'm still waiting. But fortunately I am still here. But parents and families, that brings me to why I am writing to you.
As we kickoff the 2022 season, we need your help. The production value in this show is stepping up significantly from last year and that can only be accomplished through the incredible support we've already received from the Ridgeline Band Boosters, and the raw labor of our motivated parent group. We have lots of "things" to build. So I'd like to start early by informing you of opportunities to help your student as well as the program as a whole.
I can tell you from experience there is no better way to be involved and no greater sense of accomplishment when you've had a hand in the success of your student and every other student standing on and off the field. You will not regret jumping in with both feet. Worry not about your lack of tool skills or inability to fold a cardboard box successfully. You have talents we need.
We do need a few people who know their way around a saw and screw gun. But we have jobs of all skill levels. We have painting, vinyl application for our front drops, and yes a bit of building to do. I have two requests:
- Due to my "unique" schedule at Kaiser. I'm not always available on the traditional weekends. So, I am searching for someone who'd like to act as my right hand person. This person needs to know their way around a shop a little bit so they are able to guide the masses on prop days I can't attend. I'm almost always available through cell phone at those times. But mostly it will just be making sure we are sticking to the plan and solving problems that may come up throughout the days tasks.
- Simple: just show up. Help where you can, don't be afraid to ask questions and enjoy the show. If you do, I guarantee you a sense of ownership in the accomplishments of the program as a whole.

This group is brilliant. The people leading the way down this path are brilliant. And I am still here because of them but more because of the students I get to watch grow as people. The growth and transformation you will see in your students through this activity and more specifically in the Ridgeline Regiment is nothing short of remarkable. Get involved. Be present.
BAND CAMP ELIGIBILITY
PHYSICALS and FINAL FORMS
We have three steps to become eligible for our members in the marching band.
STEP ONE
Complete the April Registration Process which you likely did if you are receiving this. We have a confirmation list, but we know who the 100 students are that are marching. CONFIRMED STUDENTS
STEP TWO
Get an updated Physicians Sports Physical signed. A sports physical is good for 2 years in the CVSD. However, you cannot join the marching band until you have one on file that will be good through November 1st, 2022. This CONFIRMED LIST does include student Physical Status. If your name is in red, you will need a physical updated before you can come to camp. If your name is in yellow, we are looking in to an issue with your status. If you have a question about your status, email lwilson@cvsd.org. Lori Wilson, our activities coordinator won't be back in the office for a bit, but an email and some patience should get your questions answered.
SCHEDULE YOUR SPORTS PHYSICAL NOW, DO NOT WAIT
bring this to have your physician sign PHYSICIANS PHYSICAL FORM (CVSD)
- Like sports, students need insurance, a current physical that will NOT expire before the season is over and all forms must have a parent/guardian and student digital signature.
- If you cannot upload your physical in a PDF document , please bring an actual copy to the RHS main office (M-TH 8am-1pm). If you bring in the physical we will make a copy for our records and give you back the original for your records.
- Those who registered for summer camp (colorguard/percussion) thinking that is good for MB: IT IS NOT. August 1st is a new school year and a new registration year.
Complete a NEW Final Forms for the 2022-2023 school year. Final Forms will go live on August 1st. You need to re-do from last year (even colorguard and percussion) all of the medical treatment forms, listing allergies, and giving us permission to treat in the unfortunate case of any injuries or accidents that require medical attention immediately. Here is the link: FINAL FORMS (again it will not go live until August 1st).
CHECK EMAILS
Brass and Woodwinds can check their registered email, and their 356 email for the show music very soon. It will direct you to our Google Classroom (JOIN CODE, fovybqw).
PRACTICE
A little bit of practice during this next month can shake some of the cob webs off. Percussion and Colorguard have lots of concepts to develop over the summer through their mini-camps schedule, winds you'll have the show music first! Get ready to be successful by planning a little bit of effort, even just 2 hours ALL week could make you that much better for the first day.
BAND APP
Students should all join, parents can optional join the REGIMENT BAND app by clicking here:
REGIMENT APP (click link)
Parents should definitely join at least the PARENT BAND app.
BAND PARENT APP (click link)
This a a great way to communicate. You can turn off notification so you only engage the conversation on your terms. It does not text your phone, it's communication when you want communication.
