Principal Note
Munhall Family Reading Night
I want to thank the 70 families who attended last night’s virtual Family Read Aloud event. I hope all attendees enjoyed the stories, games, raffles, etc. Mrs. Dainko, Mrs. Dieter, Mrs. Jordahl, and Mrs. Kaye did an awesome job!
Donations to Support Munhall Families
Wow! I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the amount of donations that have poured in over the last few weeks! I want to thank all of the Munhall families who gave so generously to support our families that can benefit from a little extra during this holiday season.
Preparing for the Winter—How D303 will handle Snow Days
As we prepare for the winter months, I want to communicate our district’s plan should we encounter the need to use an Emergency Day (Snow Day, etc.). The first three emergency days of the year will be a traditional emergency day. This means, students will have the day off of school, and it will be made up at the end of the school year. Using three emergency days will still allow our year to conclude before Memorial Day weekend. We will re-evaluate after the first three emergency days to determine if and when we need to utilize the remote learning plan. If there is an extended time off, such as the cold week we had a few years ago, we could possibly do a combination of old-fashioned emergency days and remote learning days. If this situation should arise, a plan will be communicated in a timely manner.
i-Reading—Winter Diagnostic Assessment
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The second i-Ready diagnostic assessment is scheduled for students to take between November 29th and December 10th for middle school students, and December 6th and the 17th for elementary school students. This is a mid-year check on how students are progressing towards their growth goal. Your school will provide you with more specific days as to when your child will take their assessments. After the diagnostic assessments, your child will receive an update to their lessons assigned under the personalized pathway (MyPath).
What should I know and expect as a parent/guardian?
Computer adaptive assessments are designed to determine what standards students know and don’t know yet.
Remind your child they will see questions they might not know the answer to and some easier questions. We need to know what they do know and do not know yet. This is expected.
The purpose of the i-Ready diagnostic is not to give your child a score or grade, but to determine how to best support their learning.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning. We look forward to sharing information with you throughout the year. If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact me, your principal, or your child’s teachers. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting https://sites.google.com/d303.org/i-readyresources/home .
Sincerely,
David Chiszar

First Trimester Report Cards
Report Cards for the first trimester are currently available on Home Access Center. Please note, the markings only represent progress for the first trimester. If you are seeing progress ratings for the 2nd trimester, that is simply due to the default of the system. Our 2nd trimester continues into February, so parents receive 2nd trimester progress reports at that time.
Early Release Day—December 1st
Our next Early Release Day is Wednesday, December 1st. This date seems like it’s far off, but it is the Wednesday we return from Thanksgiving Break. Dismissal on Early Release Days is 2:10 pm.
Have an amazing Thanksgiving Break! Safe travels to all!
