Road / Pedestrian Safety
At the start of the year we had concern about various aspects of road and pedestrian safety - especially when our students were departing school at 3.10pm. We have communicated various reminders and we have noticed very good improvement in behaviour. However, we still have issues with vehicles being parked across no parking zones, footpaths and across driveways. Please arrange to pick up your child in MacKinnon Loop or Milford Road. We also notice that some drivers are using cell phones when driving past the school and others exceed the 20km/hr limit when passing the school buses.
On a positive note we give a huge thank you to:
Road Safety Southland for providing Hi-Viz all weather gear printed with Safety messages for our staff to wear.
Southland District Council for rapidly completing remedial work on the pedestrian crossing outside school. Ramps on both sides now mean mobility scooters or pushchairs etc can access the crossing.

Heating / Ventilation
Some parents and caregivers have queried our heating over the past week. At the moment we have to ensure good ventilation in each classroom. Although we have excellent heating with our new boiler, obviously good ventilation means the temperature of the classrooms will be lower than usual. To cope with this, please ensure your child has a thermal layer of some sort under their uniforms. We are also allowing other jackets at the moment to ensure they are warm. But other uniform requirements remain unchanged.
