Candace Gilliam, 7th Grade Assistant Principal
Greetings Bailey Buccaneers! It is my sincere honor to serve as the 7th Grade Assistant Principal for the 2019-20 school year. I have been involved in K-12 Education for 15 years, and have served in various capacities including teacher, teacher developer, parent engagement liaison, and campus testing coordinator. I received my Bachelor of Science in Community Health at Sam Houston State University, and my Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of Houston-Downtown.
There is an old proverb that states, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” My purpose is to show people how to fish. I want to be an effective leader, and equip those that I serve with tools that will allow them to be able to build the capacity to be successful. In doing so, I am committed to being a part of the “LIFT”ing to shift from teaching the lesson to educating the student, from teaching classes to teaching individuals. In order for that to take place, our school must build a collaborative community of stakeholders who wholeheartedly believe that they play a part in the evolution of educating students.
I look forward to collaborating with our dedicated staff, families, and administrative team to help provide the best educational experience for our students. I count it a joy to be a part of the Buccaneer Family!

Discipline Committee: This committee met on July 22, 2019 and they were extremely productive!! They gave feedback on the District Discipline Matrix in a meeting with Thomas Graham. Then they came back to the campus and developed the PBIS Plan and Lesson Plans for implementation. This committee will present at our Back to School PD! Additionally, the campus discipline matrix has been developed in alignment with the district matrix. Thank you Ms. Brink and Ms. Davis for your leadership on this committee!

Parent Engagement Chairperson Introduction & Contact Info:
Thank you everyone for yet another successful parent engagement committee meeting. I believe the Orientation/Block Party is definitely shaping up to be something special. Let's continue to spread the word and be sure to mention to staff if you should happen to see them before we come back to school.
Just a brief recap, all adjustments have been made to the google doc created. If you do not have access please text me or send a message in remind, so I can share the link. After much debate it was decided that we will separate each grade level into two different color groups. Orange and Blue. If you are designated in the orange group you will be directed to your grade level pod to begin meeting teachers, learning about certain school/classroom expectations, grade level policies and most importantly receiving your ID and school schedule. ***If a students ID is not ready please direct them to the library where they will be able to take a picture on sight.*** AFTER ANNOUNCEMENT IS MADE we will direct students/parents to the cafeteria using BEST Hallway transition; demonstrating how to walk in the hallways to and from classes.
If you are designated in the blue group then you will be directed to the cafeteria (LGI spanish speakers) for Bailey welcome via the Principal Ms. Brown and Admin team. Also, as a part of the cafeteria rotation you will have an opportunity to visit the district tables for general information and see what all Bailey has to offer.
Each group will spend just about 45-50 minutes before rotating using BEST Hallway transition, and at the conclusion of 2nd wave everyone will be escorted outside to visit with food trucks, enjoy DJ and vendors. To keep parents/students engaged throughout, as they enter they will receive a bingo style card that will need to be signed/stamped by the anticipated stops of the day. (Teachers, counselors, ID badge, etc...) For now prizes for completions will consist of spirit shirts, other prizes pending.)
We still have a little bit of work to do but teamwork will definitely make the dream work. As stated before visit the google doc to see where your help is needed and do not hesitate to reach out. Next suggested meeting August 1, 10 AM TO FINALIZE DETAILS!! Thanks,
It's not to late to join the movement! Fill out the form at this link to indicate your interest in a committee:

Message from Ms. Gilliam: SEE HER EMAIL INVITE!
Our New Teacher Academy is scheduled for Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at Bailey. We will go through an overview of proactive and positive approaches to classroom management as well as preview systems, routines, and procedures that will be expected to be used district wide. By the end of the day, you will be expected to have completed a classroom management and discipline plan. I have attached the Bailey Middle School Classroom Management and Discipline Plan Template so that you can get a head start in compiling essential information regarding your vision, classroom organization, and discipline procedures. Please bring a draft of your plan on Tuesday so that we can work from it.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I look forward to meeting each of you!
