No Place Like Jones
Parent Updates for the Week of October 18, 2021
Principal Corner
Dear Ira B. Jones Families:
Fall is here, and although the weather has turned out to be nice and sunny this week, the days often start more on the cool side. It's a good idea to send your child to school in layers of clothes. Students go outside for recess, lunch, and other activities, and we open the windows to help increase the flow of fresh air throughout the building.
The lost and found is starting to overflow with jackets, sweatshirts, and other clothing items. If your child is missing one of these items, it's probably in our lost and found area. Have your child check. Names on these items help to ensure students will get them back.
Any items left at the end of the month will be donated.
I look forward to continuing our partnership with you to ensure our children are successful while at school. We know collaboration with you will make a significant difference in our students being successful. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children's success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child's learning by ensuring that he/she:
Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day's learning experience;
Completes all assignments given by teachers, including any practice at home;
Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills;
Informs their teacher if they need additional support in any area or subject;
Listens and accepts redirection; and
Try their best and not give up.
Thank You for your continued support and partnership. Educating our students takes a village, and the Jones community is one of a kind!
In Partnership,

Volunteer Training - Please Sign Up!
We need parents to assist with many aspects of our school, including organizing fundraisers, PTO programs, the Health Fair, EOG test proctoring, tutoring, chaperoning field trips, book fairs, Open House, and organizing volunteers to help with school and class activities. Any volunteer working with children during the school day must fill out the required paperwork, including submitting info for a background check.
Volunteers are required to renew their background checks yearly on the anniversary date that they were submitted. They only have to attend the volunteer training once.
To be a Level II volunteer (volunteer regularly and help to chaperone field trips), the volunteer needs to have a clear background check (every year) and attend the training/orientation (one time). Both of these must be completed to be a LEVEL II VOLUNTEER.
Please consider completing the Volunteer Training, so when we can have volunteers, you can help! I will notify families and the school community when volunteers can participate on campus.
The folks who signed up for the Wednesday, November 3, Volunteer Training have been wiped off due to a tech error. In order to provide adequate slots for those folks to re-register for the orientation, a slot was added on Monday, November 8, in addition to the November 3 session. If you signed up for a November 3 training, please check your registration for this session.
The information for the Volunteer Training is below.

Halloween
We ask that students follow the guidelines and theme provided by their teacher for wearing a "costume" to school during Halloween. In addition to the guidelines, we ask that students not bring props or candy to school or wear unsafe shoes. Your child's teacher will share communication with you soon about these expectations.
