SVDP School
October 30, 2020 Newsletter
Hello SVDP Community,
Happy Halloween! Whatever your plans, we ask you to celebrate safely and smartly.
We were very happy to see 5th and 6th grade cohorts A & B on campus this week. Next week will bring us another big milestone. We are excited to announce that 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades cohorts will be in person on Blue and Gold days. We will also welcome cohorts A & B for 7th and 8th grades --- that means we will be at 60% capacity for on campus learners.
A reminder that your surveys indicating your preferences for the 2nd trimester are due on November 4th. More information is located below. If you have already submitted, but wish to make changes due to this additional information or a change of mind, you may start over. Just do a new survey. We will be using the last submittal per family.

2nd Trimester Learning Preferences Survey
Attached is the tentative calendar for the second trimester. We thought this may be valuable information as you complete your 2nd trimester survey. We also have prepared some notes based on questions from both parents and staff and hope they will add some clarity.
ATTENDANCE:
We want to remind families that our attendance policy has not changed. Whether you are registered for in-person or distance learning, if you are absent because of an illness or a doctor’s appointment, that is counted as an excused absence. If you are absent due to travel, that is counted as an unexcused absence.
However, if your student is slated for in-person learning and must be marked absent, they are invited to participate in their classroom via Zoom. While we cannot count them as present, we will add a comment that they participated in distance learning (DL). We hope this will prevent them from falling behind due to any absence.
The state regulates that if a student is absent 20 or more days in a trimester, the school cannot post / release grades for them.
QUARANTINING
How does quarantining factor into attendance? If you are self-quarantining to follow the advised protocol because you have traveled or are welcoming house guests, that will count as an unexcused absence. If you are quarantining because the health department has notified you that you have potentially been in contact with a positive case or you have received a positive result yourself, your quarantine will be counted as excused (documentation must be provided to the school). We encourage your child to still participate via distance learning.
PREPARING FOR THE 2ND TRIMESTER
The commitment to in-person or distance learning is important on many levels. Our teachers must plan their lessons, small groups, and one-on-one work based on who they believe will be in the classroom and online. Planning has taken on a whole new level of complexity, and our teachers are very dedicated to bringing their best to your students every day.
We completely understand that your decisions for in-person vs. distance learning are personal. We do ask that you consider all factors, including the stability and consistency of your child’s learning environment.
As previously stated, your commitment to distance or in-person learning is a commitment for the full trimester (2nd trimester is November 16 – February 26). We cannot allow students to move in and out of formats.
Ms. Pini is always happy to work with families with specific circumstances. Please reach out anytime.

COVID-19 Testing at Saint Vincent de Paul
On December 7th, Saint Vincent de Paul School will host a COVID-19 and antibody pop up test site on campus. Employees, registered school families, and the immediate family members of either group are invited to utilize this service.
This test is not mandatory, but a courtesy service as many people make choices about travel and family interactions between Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks With our COVID protocols, students are only allowed to enter and exit campus once per day. Having your child scheduled during class time, would mean they would have to leave for the day; this would be the same policy for a doctor's appointment. We suggest that students be scheduled after their release time.
The test site will be open from 8:30 – 3:30. You must have an appointment, there will be no walk-ins permitted. If you wish to take part in this testing program, click here for an appointment time. Each individual must have their own appointment time.
Necessary forms and additional information are available on SchoolSpeak or follow the link to your appointment confirmation:
- Patient Test Request Form (must be downloaded, completed, and submitted to nurse at test site)
- Consent for Venous Puncture (if applicable must be downloaded, completed, and submitted to nurse at test site)
- HRSA COVID-19 Uninsured Program (if applicable must be downloaded, completed, and submitted to nurse at test site)
- Notice of Privacy Practice
- Instructions to access lab results on PMH portal
At your appointment, please bring:
- A photocopy of the front and back of your medical insurance ID card. They will need one copy for every family member being tested, even if the information is the same. The paperwork stays with the sample, so it cannot be shared.
- Completed Patient Test Request Form (see above)
- Completed Consent for Venous Puncture (if applicable, see above)
The test site will be set up in the staff parking lot (corner of Green and Pierce). If weather prohibits an outdoor event, the testing will be moved inside the gym.
Currently, the schedule is open for one appointment per time slot. However, they will open more appointments based on demand.
