Leading and Learning: CORE VALUES
Sense of Community
I can appreciate the different backgrounds of our community.
When I think of today’s world and the political and social issues that divide us, operating under this “I can” statement could make a world of difference. We so easily find things that divide us. We take statements out of context and slander others with their thoughts and ideas just because they are different than ours. We are becoming a society that thrives in differences and disagreement, rather than a community that appreciates others for who they are and what they bring to the table regardless of whether their views differ from ours. Try to take some time this week to be slower to judgment or anger and listen to those who are different from us. You may not always agree, but we can all find ways to appreciate and find the good in those from different backgrounds and ideals.

30 Days to Change Your Ways
Hello Friday! After today, we only have 23 days left with our students. Add in 6 more Wednesdays, and that means in 30 days, many of our seniors will be walking across the stage at graduation! If that doesn’t make today exciting, you need to check your pulse. With every passing day, we get a little bit closer to the end of the school year. Can you believe we are already here, in the middle of April? It seems like July was a really, really, really long time ago. Time is passing, and students are back in the building for another week. Some people might use this as an excuse to coast, while some might start to feel a little more back on track. Days are ticking away at what seems to be an exponentially increasing pace.
Whether the time seems long or short, we have 30 days to make a difference. We have the gift of 30 days to change lives and equip students with skills to make them successful. What can be done in 30 days? Maybe the question we should ask ourselves is: What can’t be done in 30 days? Here is a video on the power of doing something for 30 days.
Your #SHSGFC for this week is to find something you would like to add (or subtract) from your life (or your classroom) for the next 30 school days. We have all probably had enough classroom change, so maybe building a positive personal habit might be more in order right now, or go for it and change one thing in your classroom that will get next year started on the right foot. This could also be a great time to focus on eliminating that annoying habit you have always wanted to change… This challenge is given to you this week, so you have the rest of the school year to try it out. Perhaps you renew the challenge in June and July and come back for the 2021-2022 school year better than ever!
Let’s end this year with the positivity pumping!
See you in 30 days better than ever,
With banners flying as we go! #FlyAsONE
