Veteran's Day
On this solemn occasion of Veteran's Day, we come together to pay our deepest respects and heartfelt gratitude to the brave men and women who have served our country with unwavering dedication and sacrifice. Today, we remember and honor the heroes who have selflessly protected the freedoms we hold dear.
At Mt. Everest we have several former service members among our staff, including:
- Michael Goldwater, Chief Hospital Corpsman, US Navy (Retired)
- Jim Greenwood, Lieutenant, US Navy (1986-1990)
- Melissa Keck, Lieutenant, US Navy (2002-2008)
In addition, we have numerous students and staff that have family members who have served or are currently serving in the military. These families have shared in the burden of long deployments, sleepless nights, and the uncertainty that comes with serving in the armed forces. Their strength and resilience are the pillars of our veterans' success.
This week, take a moment to connect with a veteran or a military family member, hear their stories, and share your appreciation. Let them know that their service and sacrifice are cherished and honored.
This Week's Events

Native American Heritage Month
From Ally Action: November is Native American Heritage Month! Native Americans make up about 2.5% of the total U.S. population. Their history and contributions are critically important to our national identity. Misconceptions and ignorance can lead to the perpetuation of misinformation, especially surrounding holidays like Thanksgiving. This month, it’s important to remember the history of Native Americans, the systemic issues they still face today, and to take supportive, uplifting action to right historic injustices.
We highly encourage you to educate yourself about Native American history. Ally Action has a bookshelf in Nielsen’s room (Room 8) and two specific books located on this shelf (pictured below) feature Native American stories.
