The Primary Connection
Primary Family Newsletter - September 15, 2023
Notes From the Office
This week our students are starting to settle into the routines and procedures of the Primary School. The staff has started completing fall benchmark assessments with our students. These early assessments are our guide to monitoring the growth your child makes over the course of the school year.
As a former Kindergarten teacher, I always thought there could be nothing more exciting than watching my Kinders learn new skills and their excitement for learning. Then, I taught first grade and I discovered students at that level had a different excitement for learning and their eyes twinkled just as much as a kindergartener when they mastered new skills. I can honestly say, the Primary is a great place to be as I get to experience the best of both worlds with our little Eddies.
If you ever have questions about the Primary or why we do things the way we do, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am always willing to answer questions, listen to complaints and assist our families as needed. Additionally, if you come directly to me, rather than the Parent Network, you will always get the most accurate answer to your questions.

We start preparing for dismissal at 3:40 and our dismissal time is 3:45. Yesterday we were able to load 170 students and complete the driveline is approximately 20 minutes, that is about 8 cars per minute. We continue to look at our procedures for ways that we can improve.
Thank you to Shana Kretchman for coming in this week and assisting students navigate their way out to the dismissal fence. We appreciate your help!
Free Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast and lunch are free for all students in the state of Michigan. Additionally, the Primary and Eagle Lake are serving breakfast within the classroom after students arrive at school. Our cafeteria team and our teachesr have done an amazing job serving breakfast this week.
I have included the number of students we have had participate in breakfast this past week:
Sept 11 = 225 (68%)
Sept 12 = 245 (74%)
Sept 13 = 250 (75%)
Sept 14 = 256 (78%)
Sept 15 = 253 (76%)
Total = 1,229 breakfasts served
Label Everything
Our lost and found is beginning to fill up and it is only the second week of school. If items are labeled, we can connect the item with the student. I will repeat this numerous times throughout the school year, please label your child's personal items. This includes coats, sweaters, water bottles, lunch boxes, etc. I already have a small collection of items that have been "lost" within the building.
Transportation Changes
If you need to make changes to how your child is going home, please call the office prior to 2:30. This provides ample time to notify the classroom teacher and the student of the changes. If the change involves bus transportation, please contact the transportation department as well.
Communication
Contacting our teachers via email and or classroom apps is a great way to communicate. If they do not respond to you immediately, it is because they are busy teaching. They may not have the opportunity during the school day to respond. Time sensitive messages should come through the office, especially if it is a transportation change.
