Welcome to Gifted Social Studies
American History (1860-1938): Mrs. Schroeder
Mrs. Kelly Schroeder
It is hard to imagine that the school year is already coming to a close. I am so proud of what our students have accomplished this year. We all started out in a brand new building, with new people to meet, and a new Gifted Social Studies curriculum to learn. We navigated this new middle school together, acquiring many new skills along the way. We practiced our historical thinking when learning about the different topics within American History. We improved our writing skills by developing historical arguments. We also worked on executive functioning skills with time management and organization of daily assignments. Last but not least we built upon our social skills by meeting and building new friendships. Overall I would say that these historians had a successful first year at Hixson.
I hope you have a wonderful summer and we will see you next year!

American History (1938-2024): Mr. Wetter
Greetings and happy final newsletter!! This year truly has flown by.
The students are working on their Pop Culture Through the Decades project. This was the project they have been working on through the semester first picking their topic and beginning the initial research way back in January. Since then they have researched their topics through the 2000s. They have each created a website showcasing their topic and how it has evolved through the decades. They have looked at how art reflects society and in some cases how society reflects art.
They are finishing up with creating an artifact reflecting the change in the decade for their mini museums. This will be completed by next Wednesday, May 15 with presentations beginning on Thursday, May 16. This truly has been a fun process watching the students deep dive into topics they enjoy.
All grades are up to date unless your student has turned in late work. Keep in mind that SIS weighs the grades differently than Canvas. If you have any questions regarding anything in class - grades, assignments, units, etc. - feel free to email me at wetter.bradley@wgmail.org. Thank you and have a great day.
