A Note from Principal Reilly
On September 24th, in partnership with the Tree Trust Program, all students from PreK-fifth grade, had the opportunity to give back to the land we learn on. Students planted trees and shrubs, carried wood chips and buckets of water to help in beautifying our outdoor space. It was a great event that all should be proud of. One student, who needed to take a break, sat on the benches in the new outdoor learning space, breathed, looked up at the sky and said, "I like this place." Sometimes the little things are the biggest things.
Speaking of the land we learn on, this month we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day which recognizes that Native people are the first inhabitants of the Americas, including the lands that later became the United States of America. It urges Americans to rethink history. Indigenous Peoples Day honors and celebrates Native American peoples and commemorates their histories and cultures.
Just a reminder, please try to send masks with your children to school so that they are coming in to school with a mask on. We do have extra masks for students who forget theirs, but we need your help in sending masks with your children. WE appreciate your support.
Happy October!

Extended Day for Learning(EDL): Looking for after school enrichment?
Please check your children's backpacks for the EDL registration sheet. You will have to choose an option for transportation. Due to the bus driver shortage we don't have bussing right now so if you want your child/children involved in EDL you would have to pick up at 4:00. We are hoping to get bussing in near future. Please mark on the back side of form to let us know about transportation plan.

Policies Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment or Violence
A person who harasses or is violent toward someone could be a student or an adult. Harassment may include the following when based on a person’s race, creed, sex, marital status, national origin, age, color, religion, ancestry, status with respect to public assistance, familial status, sexual or affectional orientation, gender identity or expression, or disability.
- Name calling
- jokes or rumors
- Pulling on clothing
- Unwelcome touching of a person or the person’s clothing
- Graffiti
- Notes or cartoons
- Offensive or graphic posters or book covers
- Bullying that rises to the level of a hostile environment
- Any words or actions that make you or someone else feel uncomfortable
At Hamline we are taking a proactive approach to this and are currently teaching students about what hate speech is and what our immediate response will be when or if it is used. Please encourage your children to report it if they witness hate speech or are a victim of it. We all must work together to create a safe and respectful learning community.
A Note from Annette Nelson our School Counselor
With the new month, we are starting a school-wide incentive program! This months theme is Collaboration - working together toward a common goal. Over the month, your student(s) will be learning what it looks like, sounds like and feels like to have collaboration in our school and classroom communities. We encourage you to incorporate this definition at home as well, so our students start to fully understand the importance of collaboration in different settings.
Students and classrooms will be working toward the common goal of earning collaboration tokens to fill up a 5 gallon bucket! Once the bucket is filled, we will have an all school celebration!
Thank you for helping us cultivate a collaborative community for your students. As always, if you need any extra support with the education of your student, I can be reached at 651-744-8220, annette.nelson@spps.org
