"Bytes" From Your School Leader, Dr. Townsend

January 26, 2024

Greetings Phalen Virtual Leadership Academy Families,

Happy Friday! What a wonderful Week 25 at PLA Virtual! This is our last week in January, and the month has flown by. Next week is a shortened week for scholars as our team will be working together on Friday, February 2, 2024 to learn and grow together to benefit YOU, our scholars and families. We know the cold weather can be challenging for some, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve you in a virtual setting, escaping the cold, being able to stay inside. Please be sure your scholar is logging in daily for classes to learn, grow, spend time with peers and build healthy relationships with teachers and peers.

Have you registered for our IRead Kick--0ff Event? If not, it is not too late, and we need to see you there. All families of scholars taking Iread this year have received an invite with their Kick-off location. . Scholars will get to see teacher and peers and enjoy a yummy pizza lunch, play games and get some extra tools to boost them forward in preparation for IRead in March.

Have you registered your scholar for the Art Show? If not, it is not too late. We also have lots of upcoming events and activities in February for you and your scholar to look forward to. Please be sure to mark your calendars (see "Mark your Calendars Upcoming Events" section below in this newsletter) to ensure you never miss an event.

We hope you enjoy the upgrades we have made to this weekly communication for Semester 2. As a reminder, if there is any information that you would like shared with you by PLA Virtual, please do not hesitate to reply to this email and the messages will be sent directly to me, Dr. Townsend.

We look forward to seeing your scholar(s) on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 8:35am for Week 26 at PLA Virtual!

With Gratitude,

Warming centers are facilities that provide relief from extreme cold weather conditions. Hours, days, and locations are subject to change at any moment, or be extended under extreme conditions. It is advisable to always contact the non-emergency number for your local police department, fire department, or 211 to confirm the information and for assistance. A Community Navigator can be reached 24/ at @ 2-1-1.

Free Coats for Kids is available in many cold weather states, including the northeast and Midwest. Non-profit clothing centers as well as partner organizations collect goods from the community. The Salvation Army and Operation Warm are major participants. They then provide the warm coats, gloves, hats and other items to children and students, free of charge as part of Coats for Kids.
