Friday Family Message
Hello Families
You did it! All of our students are back to school and in class!
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we fine-tuned bus routes on the first days of school. Despite detailed planning, there are always adjustments and late routes to manage. We are thrilled to see the excited faces of our students as they meet new teachers, navigate new school buildings, and make new friends.
During the 2023-2024 school year, the adults in our system are focusing on ensuring our classrooms are engaging places for our students to learn. This is the focus of Year Two of our District Strategic Plan. As you may recall, we developed this plan with more than 1,000 voices at the table.
Our community was loud and clear about prioritizing what happens in the classroom as a high priority. Our staff will be learning and practicing what it means to ensure our students are interested, supported, and engaged in the lessons they are learning in class.
We welcome your feedback throughout the year!
Visitors and volunteers
Just a quick reminder that all our building doors are locked during school hours. Visitors at our elementary and middle schools must use the button near the front doors to ring the office staff to be let in. Visitors to our high schools enter into a secured area that leads to the school office.
All visitors need to check in at school offices.
We're excited to see so many people register to volunteer in our school so far! And it's not too late to sign-up and help in classrooms, lunchrooms, libraries, and more. Just use our simple, new online form at www.stanwood.wednet.edu/volunteer.
More about our meals
You can find breakfast and lunch menus for September and meal prices on our Food Services webpage and via the Menu button at the top of each school website.
We encourage families to submit a Free and Reduced Meal application. We recommend applications be completed online via Skyward Family Access by clicking the Food Service tab and then Applications to begin.
Students and families who qualify for Free and Reduced Meals don't just see benefits on food. They qualify for a host of other benefits, including reduced Snohomish County PUD bills, reduced YMCA membership costs, and much more.
Read about the other benefits HERE.
Help us honor our staff
Nominations are now open for our monthly awards! Please let us know about the extraordinary work our staff is doing by completing our simple form on our Employee Recognition Program webpage.
You can nominate a staff member for Classified or Certificated Employee of the Month. Heritage Bank is a proud sponsor of the employee recognition program in partnership with Stanwood and Camano Island area businesses.

Join us at Touch-a-Truck
We will be at this year’s kid-friendly Touch-a-Truck event Saturday in downtown Stanwood with one of our big yellow school buses! Drop by and say hi while checking out the many other fun vehicles on display.
The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Viking Village parking lot at 8820 Viking Way. There will be a no-horn quiet hour from 10-11 a.m.
Fire cadet program earns grant
Our robust Career & Technical Education (CTE) program gives students the chance to explore a variety of career options, supports academic and life skills, and enables achievement for industry-defined work.
One of those industries is emergency services. We're proud to partner with Camano Island Fire and Rescue for our cadet program, and excited for our students to train with this new equipment thanks to a $28,000 grant!
This week, 22 students — including six returning, second-year cadets — began the 2023-24 program. This year, the cadets each have new, industry-standard fire helmets this year in memory of Camano Island resident Bette Phillips. One of her final bequests was a donation to Camano Fire to be used for school fire education activities.

Road work update
- Drivers can expect minor delays along 72nd Avenue NW near Twin City Elementary school starting Monday as crews work to wrap up road work.
- Two paving projects near our Transportation Department may cause minor delays for drivers and buses. Crews will pave 272nd Street NW on Monday. And contractors will be paving the new intersection at 92nd Avenue NW and 271st Street NW near QFC on Monday and Tuesday 9/12. That intersection will remain open with flaggers.
- The work is wrapping up along 80th Avenue NW near Church Creek Campus and Stanwood High School. Drivers can expect minor traffic delays for flagging while crews restore properties.
