Principal's Notes - Check us Out!
Hello Parents & Guardians,
This was a very busy week. Our Core Project Apple Chart reached 100 Apples. This means that staff all over the building saw hundreds of students doing their very best. This ranged from seeing students working cooperatively in the classroom to complimenting students walking down the hallway to seeing students help others. We had our first All-School Celebration on Tuesday - see the photos below!
Additionally, our International Walk to School Day was terrific. It was so nice to see our students gather at neighborhood stops and all walk together to our Walking Track. It was a little rainy but we didn't get soaked, and it was refreshing to arrive "old school" like students all over the world.
Please note that next Friday, October 11 is our Early Release Day. Students will have lunch and be dismissed at 12:30.
Also, the Fun Run is next Friday Morning!
Anything else?
Bento Boxes were a big hit at lunch. They'll be back on our lunch menu the following week.
The PTO is moving their meetings back to evenings, see the article below.
Have a terrific weekend; take time to read with your child.

Principal
Walk to School - A little wet but a lot of fun!
The 3rd Annual Orchard Fun Run is almost Here!
Yes, the Fun Run is next week and our volunteers are finalizing all the details so we can have an awesome day. Parents - we would love for you to join us and cheer all of our runners on. Remember that since we use some of the side lot, parking may be tricky. You may want to carpool and park on the side streets. We will most likely be running regardless of the rain - (unless it is really inclement). Don't forget this is our only active fundraiser of the year, please check in to our website https://tinyurl.com/OrchardFunRun19 .
News from the PTO
Important Note about PTO Meetings: The PTO attempted to move meetings to the morning to accommodate busy evening schedules of Orchard families. However, in doing so, we would lose an important voice: those of the teachers who attend. Our next PTO meeting will return to the second Monday of the month, to be held in October on October 14 at 6:30. If you would like to attend these meetings but cannot for scheduling reasons, please reach out so that we can compile this important information and work toward resolution in the future.
International Night: Save the Date! This event is scheduled for November 7th from 6-8pm. Be on the lookout for the flyer in October. Contact Merin Maxwell at merkeg@hotmail.com for more information or to volunteer.
Orchard Gear: Please order online (link also available through Konstella) at: https://orchardschoolfall2019.itemorder.com/sale
3rd Annual Fun Run! The countdown is on! This event takes place next Friday, October 11. The Fun Run is the only fundraiser of the year and funds earned go to support the many fun PTO-sponsored events that occur; families should have received fundraising packets last week. If you have questions, contact Angi Murray at orchardfunrun@gmail.com.
Hannaford Helps: Now through Dec 1st, you can help earn money for Orchard School by shopping at Hannaford on Shelburne Rd for participating products. For every 4 qualifying products you buy, Orchard earns $3! Choose from over 1,500 participating products, ranging from breakfast and lunch items to household supplies. Look for shelf tags in-store. If Orchard School raises the most money at the Shelburne Rd store, we will receive an extra $1,000!
Box Tops: Save your box tops to help earn money for Orchard! The money earned from Box Tops goes to support many PTO-sponsored events. Drop your Box Tops in the Orchard lobby.

Notes from our School Counselors
We sometimes have students in need of good sneakers, either to keep or to use at school. If your family has any extras in sizes 2-9 (K-5) that are in good shape and which you are able to donate, we would welcome them. Please send them in a bag, attention guidance office. We are not planning a school-wide tag sale this year.
Thanks,
Auriel Gray and Aili Beeli
Thanks to Seacom.org for the generous donation of school supplies for students.
