Madrigal
Dear Friends of The Realm,
‘Tis the fall of 1522 and time once again to gather friends and family at the annual
Blaine High School Madrigal Dinner, planned this year for December 9, 10, and 11. Friday and
Saturday performances will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday will begin at 5:00 p.m. The Lovely
Queen (played by Kayla Blackwood) and our Good King (played by Keith Mathson) await thy
presence! These grand festivities will take place in the Great Hall of Blaine High School. As
ye arrive, be prepared for a royal celebration, both in the culinary preparation and in the
musical events of the evening!
‘Tis our 25th year of this magnificent feast! We would love to welcome our alumni home
for a special Alumni Night on December 11th or any night.
Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the posted starting time so that ye
might be properly greeted and seated!
We welcome you to enjoy snacks, coffee, dessert, and of course, the Wassail toast so
loved by our honored royalty! These delights are included in the cost of your ticket. Our Royal
Jesters and Minstrels have quite a comedic act for our honored guests (Slightly Out of Hand –
by Andrew Rakerd). As always, our Royal Court will regale you with holiday carols
throughout the evening. The Royal Court requests each of ye to make arrangements now for
thy rightful place at this most important celebration!
The cost for the entire evening is but $15.00 per ticket. Ye may secure thy tickets by
ordering online at https://bhstheatre.booktix.com/dept/bhschoir. Tickets must be purchased
at least 24 hours in advance. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door.
If ye have any concerns, ye may call 763-506-6629 or email andrew.rakerd@ahschools.us
for further instructions. Tables may be reserved for thy group, but do not delay, for seating is
limited. Traditionally, Blaine Manor fills fast with guest reservations! Confirmation emails will
be sent after purchase, so please provide proof of purchase at the door, either by printout
or by sorcery (a.k.a., thy cellular device.)
We look forward with great anticipation to this evening spent with ye, while enjoying
laughter, singing, excitement, good food, and magic all housed in a festive medieval setting!
Sincerely Yours,
Alyssa Ellson and Andrew Rakerd, Directors
Health Office
Promoting health and wellness in school, early influenza season
Minnesota is starting to see an uptick in flu cases, according to new data from the state department of health. Now is the perfect opportunity to remind your students about healthy habits to prevent the spread of germs and illness. Use these conversation tips at home to stay healthy this school year:
Wash hands frequently: Scrub hands and fingers with soap and clean water for at least 20 seconds.
Cover coughs and sneezes: Use an elbow or a tissue.
Avoid touching your face: Germs can enter your body through your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Practice healthy eating habits: Food is your body’s fuel. Choosing well-balanced meals boosts energy and health. Avoid sharing food/drinks/utensils with others.
Get plenty of rest: Sleep is important and restores your mind and body.
When to stay home
Ensuring schools are safe and healthy for all students is the first priority for Anoka-Hennepin. If your child does get sick, keep them home from school so they don’t share their illness with others.
Reference school district guidelines to help with this decision:
If a student has had a fever of 100 degrees or more, the student must stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal without fever reducing medication.
If a student has vomited or had diarrhea, the student must stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
If a student has had any rash that may be disease-related or the cause is unknown, check with your family physician before sending the student to school.
If a student is ill, please call the school daily to report the illness.
For more resources and information, contact your school health services office or visit ahschools.us/healthservices.
LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY DUE TO ILLNESS
Students who become ill during the school day should report to Health Services. If your child is not feeling well, it is extremely important for them to report to our Health Services office so that our medical team can assess them. Children texting or calling from their cell phones without the school being made aware is just not effective or efficient for parents or our staff. If a student needs to leave school early due to illness, health service staff will assist by verifying parent/guardian permission for the student to leave. Health services will then update the student’s attendance secretary with the reason for early dismissal.
Generally, students don’t miss more than six days of school a year from illness. If there are chronic health concerns keeping your student out of school, please consult with the school nurse.
Library News
BOOKS and DUE DATES
When books are checked out, they are due in exactly 3 weeks from the day you checked them out. It is the student's responsibility to hand them in on time or renew them before the due date. If you are reading the book and enjoying it, but the due date is quickly approaching, NO WORRIES. Either send Mr V an email (ronald.vaniperen@ahschools.us) requesting that your book be renewed or you can stop by the library with the book and have staff renew it for another 3 weeks. It’s that simple. If you have started a book and it’s not for you, bring it back and get a different one. Life’s too short to read bad books!
New book highlights!
By Richard Paul Evans
Book 8
"Michael and his friends learn that returning to a normal life is not only more difficult than they imagined, but that normal doesn't last. Like the mythical Hydra, cutting off the head of the global Elgen only created more enemies"-
Device Protection Plan
Families have the option to enroll in the Device Protection Plan.
Technology plays an important role in preparing students for life, and Chromebooks are utilized as a daily learning tool in Anoka-Hennepin middle and high school classrooms. Anoka-Hennepin students in grades 6-12 are assigned a Chromebook from the school district to ensure access to technology systems that support classroom learning.
Over 28,000 Chromebooks are distributed to students the first week of school. As careful as students and schools are, accidents do happen each year - and hundreds of Chromebooks are returned at the end of the school year with damages.
The Technology Protection Plan is optional; it is not required, however, by electing not to participate in the Protection Plan, families may be required to reimburse the school district for the replacement or repair of damaged Chromebooks assigned to their student/s. Damaged or broken screens may cost between $100 to $190 depending on parts needed; or the replacement cost for the entire device could be up to $410.
Families can opt-in to the Device Protection Plan:
Log into A-HConnect.
Select “My Student Information,” and then select “Fees.”
Parents must select or decline coverage under the Device Protection Plan.
If you forget your login and password, call 763-506-HELP (4357) or email 506help@ahschools.us.
The plan cost is $20 per student or $60 per family per school year.
If the student qualifies for reduced priced meals, the cost of the Protection Plan will be reduced to $10 ($30 for families).
If the student qualifies for free school meals, the cost will be reduced to zero.
