News & Announcements
“MR. WEST! MR. WEST! MR. WEST!” You could hear the chant from down the hall, it was coming from the cafeteria. The 200+ voices belonged to some of our littlest learners, and it was all in celebration of one of their beloveds – Mr. Matt West, a longtime custodian at Monroe Elementary School.
Mr. West was recently surprised with a visit from our Superintendent, Dr. Blanchard, who is traveling to schools across the district to honor staff who, by September 2023, achieved a 25-year milestone with the district. Mr. West is one of 10 staff who are being celebrated this year.
We’ve been sharing this message with our staff this year: “You Belong. You Contribute. You Matter.” And it’s safe to say that Mr. West matters immensely to our young Eagles (and to us, too!!). Without a doubt, they clearly feel he’s deserving of such a special celebration.
Being honored throughout this school year for 25 years of service: Robert Ainscough, CVHS Music Teacher; Brian Bullock, CVHS Business Teacher; Rita Donmoyer, Shaull Elementary 1st Grade Teacher; Jeffrey Martin, CV9 Science Teacher; Nancie Menapace, Mountain View Language Arts Teacher; Beth Nickel, Eagle View Social Studies Teacher; James Pryor, Shaull 3rd Grade Teacher; Jon Silfee, Hampden 4th Grade Teacher; Matt West, Monroe Custodian II; and Jennifer Whitehead, CVHS Math Teacher.
Please help us congratulate and celebrate all of our staff who have dedicated 25 years to Cumberland Valley. Thank you!
BEEP, BEEP! It's Love the Bus Month!
In celebration of Love the Bus Month in February, we asked a few of the drivers who work with Kauffman Bus Services, Rohrer Bus, and Miller Transportation what brings them joy on the job. Check out the video for their responses. Thank you to all of the bus and van drivers who don a smile daily and work so hard to ensure our students have a safe ride to and from school. You Belong. You Matter. You Contribute.
A Valentine's Day Science Experiment
Kindergarteners in Mrs. Evie Bender's class Winding Creek Elementary School did a science experiment with candy hearts today. Students predicted whether the candy hearts would sink or float in water, soda, and vinegar, and then they drew what happened. The outcome: The candy hearts floated in soda and sank in water and vinegar.

It's a Breakout to benefit CV Mini-THON
CV Mini-THON will be hosting a virtual escape room family night on Friday, February 23rd from 6 PM - 7 PM at Winding Creek Elementary School! The night will consist of a jungle-themed virtual breakout room, where teams must complete a series of tasks and answer questions to "break out." The event is cash only, paid at the door, with the cost of admission at $3 per person with a cap of $12 per family. Each family should bring their own devices (tablets/phones) to participate in the breakout room, and school devices are recommended.
The Buddy Program is one of the cornerstone programs of the Eagle Foundation. It continues today as one of the programs that best illustrates the Foundation's efforts to improve the lives of the students and families in our community, particularly middle and high school students who might benefit from a positive mentor relationship. Middle-school aged students (grades 5-8) are selected to participate in the initial six-week Buddy Program each summer and paired with a college-aged mentor for the summer program. They learn and grow together through an adventure-based program that focuses on building peer relationships, enhancing self-esteem, and promoting self-advocacy. Student-mentor teams participate in a variety of planned activities including team-building activities, community service, educational outdoor excursions, and important one-on-one time.
Application deadline: Mar. 11, 2024
This is an outstanding resume builder for anyone interested in going into education, or any human services field! Applicants MUST currently be attending college and must have completed at least one year of college or 24 credits. For details and the application, click here.
Portrait of an Eagle: Student Spotlight
Eagles are communicators! Cumberland Valley High School Juniors Jake Sines and Gavin Kendrick and senior Caiden Pines recently recorded a Super Bowl LVIII podcast to broadcast on Spotify as their latest publication for CV Eye, Cumberland Valley High School’s scholastic journalism class. They are a Portrait of an Eagle.
