Notes From Our Admin Team
Dear WMS Parents & Guardians,
As the principal of Wredling, I get to see so many great things happening in our school- kids working hard, great lessons taught by our teachers, and a million acts of kindness. But I also get to see the not-so-nice side of a school - poor decisions being made, some bullying and racial issues, and even some vandalism. While the good things at Wredling far outweigh the challenges, I like to face challenges head-on!
This year, you will see a shift in how we approach some of those challenges. My admin team and I will be heading out to meet with teams to re-teach expected behaviors. Sometimes those meetings will be with a whole team, and sometimes they will be with small groups of students.
Please note that this teaching is not disciplinary. It is simply the teaching of skills that some students (group or even a team) may struggle with. In smaller groups, we may work with students to sign a behavior agreement so that they know they are being held accountable to the behavioral standards we have here at Wredling. And I am fortunate that I and my admin team have the time, energy, and desire to work closely with our students to help them grow and build these important skills.
As the principal, I set the tone and tenor at Wredling. I am not the scary, disciplinary principal of days long gone. I work to develop positive relationships with our students and care for them deeply. I want what is best for them, which often includes teaching (and reteaching) skills. You can view the lesson I taught team 6-1 this past week by clicking here. The messages and reminders I share with them are positive and direct in their approach.
Our goal must be to work together to ensure that all of our students have the academic and behavioral skills necessary to be successful in school so that they and others can learn at their greatest potential!
PapaNicholas/Write-A-Check Fundraiser
Our PapNicholas/Write-A-Check Fundraiser kicked off this week. Watch for a separate communication from Mr. Loversky regarding this fundraiser. Our first turn-in is scheduled for this Monday, October 16th. Students should bring their order forms, including payments (in an envelope) to the main office on Monday for the first turn in. Additional forms are linked below and will be available in the main office too!
FYI - Note sent to students regarding Halloween Costumes
This year at WMS we are going to allow costumes on Halloween (Tuesday, October 31) because this falls on a school attendance day. Here are our guidelines:
If you are going to wear a costume, I also expect that you have come to school ready to learn on Halloween.
All costuming must happen at home. That includes any hair or make-up.
With make-up, we need to be able to know who you are-no full face make-up.
The costume must be school appropriate.
For students, there are no masks or inflatable costumes allowed.
There can be nothing that you carry around that is extra. (ie. props, fake weapons, scythes, clubs, dolls, etc.)
Teachers are expected to teach that day, though they may have Halloween themed lessons. And yes, you will be changing for PE.
There will be no Halloween parties. Or candy. Or other treats. Because you will get enough junk at night if you trick or treat.
After Halloween, you can only bring a couple of pieces of candy per day. If you bring more, I will get it and I will eat it. And I don't need any more candy. And throw away your wrappers in the garbage, please.
COMFIES DAY November 1st - dress comfortably, in pajamas or lounge wear, but still school appropriate!
Enjoy your weekend!
Tim

6th Grade Physicals
If you have not turned in your child’s 6th grade physical and proof of required immunizations, please do so as soon as possible. The state of Illinois requires that all students enrolled in 6th grade be up to date with age-appropriate immunizations and have proof of a physical exam. These medical records will be required no later than Friday October 13, 2023. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in your child’s exclusion from school on Monday October 16, 2023. If you have any questions or need assistance in meeting these requirements, please contact the Wredling Middle School Health office at 331-228-3704.
Just a reminder:
Saints Helping Hawks is our afterschool tutoring program! If your child needs help with assignments or homework, send them to SHH on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays in the LRC until 4:40. Email Mrs. Batka, Ms. Brummel, Mrs. Gonzalez, and/or Mr. Vale for more information.
