CES Happenings
Dear CES Family,
This was a really a great week for our CES students! Grades 1-6 all had full-day field trips this week. Grades 1-5 built beaver dams with a fleet of scientists and other outdoor experts, while our sixth-grade students participated in their first big Outdoor FRed (Feather River education) watershed trip for four days and three nights in Meadow Valley! I had the privilege of joining them for a nine-mile (that's right, nine) hike to Spanish Peak, a great evening around a campfire (lots of stories and skits) and an early-morning polar bear plunge. What a special group of students. They learned a lot and challenged themselves in new ways.
Thanks so much to our teachers for all of the effort that they put into making these special events happen and to the parents who joined us. Stay tuned for more pictures of these great student experiences!
Sincerely,
Scott Cory
Principal

CES Celebrates Patriot Day!!!
Last Monday, September 11, at our Monday Morning Meeting we had the opportunity remember the tragedy of the 9/11 attacks. Patriot Day, recognized every September 11, is set aside so that we might never forget what happened, but also to honor our first responders, those that run to the dangers we face in order to protect us and keep us safe. Kids discovered that there are heroes all around us! They also discovered how much Americans can help and love each other when they need it most.
We had some honored guests! Three of our local heroes joined us and were thanked and recognized by our staff and students: CHP Officers Scott Merryman and Grant Culver, and Plumas County Sheriff Deputy Blake Matthews. We are grateful for their service to our community!
Oral Health Screenings!!!
You should have received a Parent Square message regarding our upcoming oral health screenings. We strongly encourage our families to participate in this free program. Click here to access the permission slip. Hard copies will be sent home with your student and are also available in the CES office.
After-School Art!
Plumas Arts is hosting an after-school art program starting in October. Art is awesome! Check out the flier for details. Designed for students in grades 2-8, the session for grades 2-5 will be held at the Chester Memorial Hall. For students in grades 6-8, the location will be Chester Junior/Senior High School.
