New Principal and Assistant Principal!
Principal: Miss Kristen Fitzsimons
I am honored to introduce myself as the new principal of Hazardville Memorial School. My vision for HMS is to continue to foster a community where student success is at the core. This vision for success extends past academics to personal, behavioral, and social-emotional successes as well. My priority is to ensure that students have the academic and social skills to be successful while developing a love for school and learning. This will guide the work that we embark on this year. As a classroom teacher, my philosophy was that it was my job to teach children to love to learn. I carry that same belief into my administrative approach. Every child can achieve and surpass their dreams, as long as they are given the support and encouragement to reach for them. I cannot be more excited to join this fantastic community of learners and educators. Hazardville Memorial has a tradition of excellence that I look to carry into the future.
I come to HMS after serving as the assistant principal at Eli Whitney, and a math and STEAM teacher at JFK Middle School. I am a product of the Enfield Public Schools, and am proud to call Enfield home. I have a B.S. in Mathematics from Eastern Connecticut State University, an M.S. and 6th Year Certificate in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University, and am currently a Doctoral Candidate in Educational Leadership at American College of Education.
I look forward to working with families to ensure that all children achieve success. My goal is to strengthen relationships between school and home, fostering a team approach to education for each child. Recognizing the importance of family involvement in student success, I encourage caregivers to be active contributors to their child's education by getting involved in our PTO, attending student assemblies and presentations, and participating in student meetings and conferences.
Coming from Eli Whitney, I have first-hand knowledge of where students will need to be when they leave HMS as 2nd graders. Developing a strong sister-school bond with Eli Whitney so that there is as much continuity as possible between the two schools to ease the transition for students and families is an area of focus.
I look forward to meeting you. We are planning a few meet-and-greet opportunities throughout the summer. Please see the "Popsicles on the Playground with the Principal" information posted below. These events are for both caregivers and students to have the opportunity to meet me. These are not drop-off events, a caregiver must remain with the child. Additionally, I am happy to set up individual meetings (in-person, on Teams, or via phone) with caregivers throughout the summer. I have an open-door policy and encourage you to reach out at any time.
I hope you all have a happy, healthy, and relaxing summer.
