Happy Lunar New Year Conway Community!
Lunar New Year 2024 is the beginning of the Year of the Dragon, seen by many cultures as an especially lucky year in which to be born. Saturday, February 10th marks the Lunar New Year, a holiday with rich traditions and cultural significance for people worldwide. It is a time to celebrate and recognize the diverse experiences and cultures of Asian American & Pacific Islander's Heritage and communities in the United States.
This week - Student Led Conferences
Did you know that Conway Academy is the only school in our district that facilitates Student Led Conferences two times per year? As an Expeditionary Learning school, it's our goal to put the learner at the center of their learning, and they become the bridge between the school and parents. When our learners are asked to play a leadership role in selecting and presenting work to share with their families, they begin to take greater pride in the quality of what they do. This is more than a Progress Report Card, it becomes something more than just a report given, our learners have a hand in creating this report of their learning.
This month, we will highlighting several examples of our Creative Problem Solvers, one of the six whole-learner outcomes in the EUSD Learner Profile, part of our Framework for the Future. A Creative Problem Solver is an individual who seeks opportunities to creatively design solutions, solve complex problems, and act on novel ideas. Student Led Conferences exemplifies this learner outcome as each and every student is front and center learning how to problem solve creatively and set goals.

Building a Mindset of Continuous Improvement
As an Expeditionary Learning school, our learners are building mindsets of continuous improvement as they work toward creating High Quality Work. Critique and descriptive feedback help students understand that all work, learning, and performance can be improved. There is nothing that does this more effectively than when learners work through multiple drafts as these students have in their writing. Our goal is that our learners get to a level that is beyond what they thought possible. Writing is one example of HQW (High Quality Work), this practices extends to all aspects of learning for our Conway cougars. So very proud of our Writing Celebration winners.
This year’s #BlackHistoryMonth celebrates Black and African American artists. EL Education is honoring the work of our student artists. The survey link is for ALL 5th grade families to complete and indicate school choice for the 2024-25 school year now. This information will also help us best support your students' transition.
