Say It â—Ź Own It â—Ź Act It â—Ź Respect It
At East, our students are expected to SOAR! We teach behavior like "Say It" (communicate with kind words and appropriate body language), "Own It" (own your actions and your words), "Act It" (act like your best self), and "Respect It" (respect yourself, others, and your community).
Students showing SOARing behavior can earn Eagle Bucks! Eagle Bucks are saved and every two weeks they can be used to shop at our SOAR cart. Students may buy little trinkets or they can spend their money on experiences like- saying the morning announcements, having lunch with the principal or counselor, using the principal's chair for the day, buying extra recess or reading time outside, and many more!
IF students ever have an office referral and need to speak to one of our staff members in the office like Ms. Holzhauer (Principal), Mrs. Lynn (School Psychologist), or Mrs. Joseph (School Counselor) about their behavior choices we will send home a SOAR form (as seen below). We believe in reflection, accountability, and teaching (and reteaching ) appropriate choices- making each moment we spend with children a teachable one. We appreciate all your support in advance!

Transportation
We ask that you have a consistent weekly schedule for your child’s dismissal. At this age, it is simply too difficult to make changes to 1st and 2nd graders’ routines.
If you have an appointment or emergency, please send in a note and pick your child up as a car rider by 3:15 in the front office.
Student Backpack Tags
Student backpack tags will be provided to you at Open House. These tags will indicate how your child should be getting home- bus, car, or NEST.
For the first couple days, teachers will have you fill out your information on an index card (provided at Open House) and pin this to your child’s backpack. The backpack tags mentioned above will replace the index card and should remain on your child’s backpack all year.
BUS RIDERS
Important bus transportation dates:
August 10th- Routes are posted to the website https://www.avonlocalschools.org/about-us/transportation *Routes are subject to change before school starts - updates will be posted on the district website*

August 18th- Mock Run by Busses
August 22nd- Updated Routes are posted
Please review these rules with your child prior to school starting: Bus Safety Rules
PLEASE EXPECT DELAYS the first week of school. We check every student getting on every bus so it will take longer for our dismissal. We appreciate your patience as all our students learn their new routinesđź’ś

Office Procedures
To promote safety, we will be limiting guests entering our Main Office areas. Therefore, parents needing to drop off items at the school will be doing so within the double door vestibule areas, where a table will be set up to leave the marked item(s) example: lunchbox.
This table will also have a sign-in area if your child were to arrive late due to a given reason. Guests can always push the buzzer to ask questions with the office personnel. In the event your child is sick, the office will contact you directly.
If you’re signing your child out for the day, we will ask you to fill out a slip with the early dismissal reason. Once this has been completed, we will call for your child to come down. We do not call children down to the office until a parent arrives.
We ask that you ALWAYS have your ID ready whenever you are a visitor at our school. Please let your emergency contacts know as well!
Communication
School Messenger (through PowerSchool): School Messenger will be used for important and time sensitive communication regarding Avon East. In addition, our monthly newsletter link (via Smore) will be sent at the beginning of each month through PowerSchool Messenger.

From the Principal...
East Families,
Being the Principal at Avon East is truly a dream job!đź’śđź’›
I am honored to lead our first and second grade eagles on their learning journey along with the greatest staff in the world. At East, I hope you feel the contagious positive energy and the love our people have for what they do!
Just a little bit about me- this is my fifth year as Principal of Avon East and 17th year overall in education. I was formally an elementary special education teacher at Heritage Elementary before getting into Administration. I reside in Avon, with my family, where we love sports, staying active, game nights, and spending time together!
I realize there was a lot of information in this newsletter, so I ask you take the appropriate time to review all the details and please ask any follow-up questions you may have.
I am always here for you- by phone or email- so please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for trusting our team with the most important piece of your world!
Go Eagles!đź’śđź’›
