New Building Access Control and Visitor Management Systems within Middleton Schools
In an effort to increase safety for our students and staff, Middleton School District has adopted three pieces of technology that will be in place starting Wednesday, September 11:
- New surveillance cameras across the district to help provide school officials and emergency responders faster responses to emergencies (been in place since the first day of school).
- Access control. At all schools, all exterior doors will be geared to remain locked during school hours to help keep our students safe and ensure visitors use the correct access into our schools. Exterior doors, when not scheduled to be unlocked during student period passing times, will have sensors that will alert officials if a door is propped open to help ensure our doors are closed and locked. Installing this equipment helps schools make sure that staff know who is in our buildings and keeps strangers from entering undetected. So please use the front entries to our schools to either visit or drop off/pickup your child(ren).
- Visitor Management System. For visitors, the main entrances to our schools have a button that guests press to gain entrance. These buttons are all located within the first set of doors inside the vestibules at the main entries at all schools. The office staff will talk you through our new visitor process. You will be asked to provide your driver’s license or other official form of ID, which will be scanned or manually entered into the RaptorTech Visitor Management System. The system will quickly check the identity on the card with the national sex offender registry. Under Idaho Code, anyone on this list is not allowed entrance into a public school. Once entry is approved, you will be allowed into the building, and you will continue on to the front desk to receive a temporary visitor badge that features your name, picture, date, and purpose of your visit. A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork. On subsequent visits, you can choose to scan your ID or use the “Quick Find” feature to easily sign your child(ren) in and out of the school. A visitor’s badge will not be necessary, but a valid form of photo ID must be presented to verify your identity when signing out a student.
Safety is the first priority at Middleton School District, and these three new systems will better ensure that our students are in a safe and inviting learning environment. This process may take a moment, so please be patient for the sake of our students’ safety. If you have any questions, please let us know by emailing msd-admin@msd134.org or ask the front office staff at your schools the next time you stop by for a visit.
