- Mike has done nothing but step up time and time again to not only be a world-class teacher but a world-class colleague.

Health and Safety- Illness Prevention
Each day before coming to school, caregivers should evaluate their student’s symptoms and take steps to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. If they are sick with COVID-19 or you think they might have COVID-19, follow the steps below to help protect other people in your home and community.
People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms ranging from mild to severe illness. Some people with COVID-19 have no symptoms. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus but it may not be possible to know when or how a person got infected. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
This list does not include all possible symptoms. Older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.
If your student has symptoms of COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, they should take a COVID-19 test right away and stay home. For information on how to get a COVID-19 test, visit ph.lacounty.com/covidtests/how or contact your medical provider.
If they test positive for COVID-19 or a doctor tells you that they have COVID-19, they should follow LAC DPH Guidelines for COVID-19 Cases (Isolation) and Close Contacts. Inform the school of the reason for their absence as soon as possible.
If they test negative for COVID-19 or your provider tells you that they don’t have COVID-19, keep them home until they have been fever-free without the help of fever-reducing medicines for at least 24 hours. Be sure to inform the school for their absence.
If they are a close contact to someone with COVID-19 and they have no symptoms, they do not need to quarantine. They are strongly recommended to wear a highly protective mask around others for 10 days, get tested 3-5 days after the exposure, and monitor their health for 10 days.
For more information regarding how to stay safe and healthy or how to get vaccinated, visit the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 Homepage (publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/).
Thank you and be well!
