🌟Congratulations🌟
On Tuesday, January 11, 2023 we were excited to learn that Eagle Lake was awarded a Strengthening Schools Grant in the amount of $1,300. Eagle Lake’s application was one of 21 grants awarded by MECC.
Miss Thunell applied for the Strengthening Schools Grant from Midwest Energy & Communications (MEC) in September, 2023. She wrote the grant in hopes that she would be able to get resources to support a Nature Club at Eagle Lake. She plans to meet with students weekly during their lunch recess to engage in the observation and study of nature on Eagle Lake school grounds. The club’s activities will help students better understand life science and math standards in a real world setting. She is planning to have club members participate in citizen projects like Project FeederWatch and Journey North as they record their observations. The funds awarded will go a long way in helping purchase binoculars and several copies of Kid’s Guide to Birds of Michigan for the Nature Club.
Many thanks to Midwest Energy & Communications for their generosity and support of our young nature lovers!

Book Nook
Welcome back! I hope everyone had some time to relax and maybe read a few books over our rainy winter break. We have jumped right into work now that we are back. Third grade students are working on answering a question about one of the countries that will be featured in their music program at the end of the month. Second grade and multiage students are working on identifying keywords in questions to help us search for the answers to those questions using an online database.
Happy researching!

Snowshoeing
This week, we pressed pause on our gymnastics unit and took advantage of the snow! Students learned how snowshoes work, how to put them on correctly, and built up muscles that are used during snowshoeing. They had the opportunity to learn about wilderness ethics and snowshoe safety.
Have a great weekend!
