From the Counselors: ASVAB Testing
1. Strengths Finder
The ASVAB covers content areas that other tests such as EOCs, ACT, and/or Accuplacer do not. It focuses on skill level in various technology fields, which could show strengths in different career fields that your student may not have considered.
2. Auto Technology Class Requirement
Sophomores interested in taking the BTEC Auto Technology class next year will be required to take the ASVAB. This is a policy due to the popularity of the class. Auto Tech is a hands-on learning environment that requires mechanical and technology comprehension. This test will help better place students and set them up for academic success and is required for auto tech class enrollment for next year.
3. Practice for Military Entrance Exam
The ASVAB is used as an entrance exam for individuals interested in joining the military after high school. Scores will not count for military purposes until junior or senior year. However, it is great practice for sophomores interested in the military.
The ASVAB evaluates skills in the following areas: General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Numerical Operations, Coding Speed, Auto and Shop Information, Mathematics Knowledge, Mechanical Comprehension, and Electronics. This test is about 3 hours.
If any of these cases apply to your sophomore student, please have them visit the counseling office to sign up. Deadline to sign up is Monday, November 8th. Contact testing coordinator Missy Walker with questions.
