Mr. Phillips Message
As we finish up the first semester, I hope everyone is doing well! Our students have worked hard and are growing every day. Report cards will be uploaded in early January after the holidays. Students will receive their 2nd semester schedule on January 2nd when we return, but can see their schedule in PowerSchool. The only classes that will change for most students will be elective courses. We will be resetting school expectations the first week back in January, but please continue to speak with your students about your expectations of how they should be working and behaving when they are with us each day.
I am very thankful and grateful to be working with the students, staff, and families of Waggoner Road Junior High and look forward to a great second half of the year!
This year has been going great and I want to thank you again for all you do!
Happy Holidays!
Jason Phillips
Principal

REMINDER: NO SCHOOL 12/15/2023 - 1/1/2023
WORD UP WITH MS.WOODARD
Greetings WRJH Family!
Just a reminder as we head into a well deserved break, we are setting a goal here to improve our student absences!! We encourage each student to be present each day. Many of you may not know but we monitor attendance each day and once a student hits a certain mark we then go through what we call the HB410 process. WIth this process students are placed on an attendance plan and monitored for 61 days. Unfortunately, if attendance does not improve within those 61 days the school will move forward with filing truancy. We never want it to reach this point as we want all of our students to be present in the building and classrooms. We love seeing them and look forward to educating them each day. A student who is in class each day giving their best is a student that will surely succeed. It is a struggle to progress students who aren’t present. We do understand that our kiddos and families get sick and also sometimes tragedy strikes, just please make sure to report these instances. As always I love being a team with you, so parents/guardians let's continue to be a team and continue to do what’s best for our players !
- Please send email to attendance.wrjh@reyn.org to notify the office about any student absence
- Instant Connect Message/Email is sent out to families to report an absence of student
- Calls home will be prompted if a student has not reported in 3 or more days
- Excuse notes should be brought directly to the office.
- If you choose to call to notify the office your student will be absent you must also send written documentation to excuse the absence otherwise the absence will be recorded in PowerSchool as unexcused
- If you need to pick your student up from school early please make sure you bring your photo ID to sign the student out of school.
Furthermore, please remember for those who pick up their students at the end of the school day, students are expected to be picked up by 4:05pm. Our offices close at 4:30pm. We are having more and more students who are staying back late. Please have a back up plan in case your student misses a bus as this can sometimes happen. We are doing our best to get your students home to you safely and in a timely manner.
Lastly, enjoy your time with your students these next few weeks. As time together is crucial and of the utmost importance. Hug them, tell them you love them, and how much they mean to you! Please let them know that we are entering a new year and it’s another chance to make things right and start anew! I hope this break is filled with lots of love, laughter and joy. Happy Holidays to you all!! We will miss you… and look forward to seeing you in the new year… 2024 let’s go!!!!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING CLASSES
OATES CORNER
Happy Season WRJH Families. What a first semester it has been! We have experienced so much in such a small amount of time. We have seen students struggle academically that are now on the path to success. We have seen discipline levels decrease in quarter two. I have enjoyed all of the spirit weeks. My favorite had to be when our teachers were all dressed like our students. Check out that picture! My encouragement for families is for us to push our students to their highest potential. As academics get more rigorous as we head towards testing in April, encourage students to become advocates for themselves. When they are struggling, connect them with a teacher that can help them see all they are capable of. Our PBIS focus this quarter will be finding students who may have failed a class for the first two quarters and pivot them into a positive direction academically. I am so thankful for our PBIS Team, MTSS Teams, and our staff for truly working to focus on the whole child. We want each student at WRJH to be seen and valued. Remember to use this holiday season to rest, spend time with family, and reflect on things moving forward. Happy Holidays and thank you for allowing us to be a part of your students' future.
We would really appreciate TISSUES for the classrooms and SWEATPANTS/LEGGINS for the caring closet. Tissues can be taken to the 1st period teacher for use in that classroom. New sweatpants and leggings can be brought to the office for the caring closet, any brands and all sizes are welcome.

PAPER is a secure, online tutoring service that provides students with unlimited, 24/7 academic support. Whether they’re stuck on homework, studying for a test, or need someone to read and make suggestions to their essays, there will always be experts available online to assist students in over 200 subjects and more than four languages.
PAPER tutors have been specially trained to conduct expert, academic support in a secure, chat-based platform. With a commitment to helping students learn, they’ll never give students answers, but rather interact with them in an encouraging tone to lead them forward.
This is a free service that we’re providing, so students are encouraged to use it as much as they need, whenever they need. Our teachers also have accounts and will be able to review all student activity to see what they’re working on and provide more targeted instruction as needed.
If you’d like to learn more about PAPER you can sign up for a PAPER hosted Parent Info Session, available in both English and Spanish. Or if you’d like to speak to a member of the PAPER team directly, you can reach them at parents@PAPER.co.
To see PAPER and the help it offers firsthand, we encourage you to login with your child(ren). Students will access PAPER on the student portal and use their CLEVER login to access PAPER.
We’re thrilled to offer our students the unlimited, 24/7 support that PAPER provides and we can’t wait to see what we’re able to accomplish together.
