Uniform Checks
Uniform checks have begun! We have seen a major decrease in the number of violations this week. The expectation is that all students are now in full uniform. Common infractions are shoes (Shoes must be all black, including soles and laces), and the PE uniform (non CMIT sweatpants/shorts are not permitted) As a reminder, cell phones are also to be placed in lockers during arrival and should remain there for the duration of the school day. Thank you so much for ensuring that scholars are following the uniform policy!
First violation: Parent contact via PRS points, telephone, email or text message. Uniform violation log must be completed by the student. Student’s classroom privileges may be removed.
Second violation: Parent contact via PRS points, telephone, email or text message. Uniform violation log must be completed by the student. Parent contact and/or conference, loss of privileges, detention, etc. may be part of the consequences.
Third violation: Detention and/or in school suspension
Fourth and subsequent violations: Administration will administer a disciplinary consequence in accordance with the PGCPS Code of Student Conduct. This disciplinary consequence may result in out of school suspension. The severity of the infraction and the student’s willingness to cooperate with school officials and adhere to the standards of the dress code will be factored into disciplinary consequences.
Attendance
Examples of Lawful Absences include: death in the immediate family, illness, suspension, observance of religious holidays, court summons, etc.
Please be sure to provide a note to the school when your child is absent. Electronic notes are also accepted using this link https://shorturl.at/kmoL4
Families are encouraged to refer to Administrative Procedure 5113 for more information.
SchoolMax Family Portal
We are almost halfway through Quarter 1. Can you believe it? Parents are encouraged to login regularly to monitor their scholar’s progress. Additionally, be sure to update your contact information in the Family Portal. This is the information that the school will use to send emails, texts, and robo-calls to keep you informed. If you encounter any issues accessing or updating your Family Portal please visit:
Free and Reduced Meal Applications
All parents are encouraged to apply for Free or Reduced Meal Services (FARMS). This information impacts school funding which equals $$dollars$$ in our classrooms.
Even if parents don't think they qualify, they are encouraged to apply at MySchoolApps.com. Online applications are processed within 24-48 hours.
Students who are not eligible for free or reduced-priced meals must pay for their meals. See Meal Prices. Parents and guardians can easily monitor and add funds to student meal accounts using MySchoolBucks.
Math Corner
Emphasizing the M in CMIT!
In math class, scholars are expected to show their work and not just provide their answers, engage in discourse and writing to math tasks. This process assist scholars when it they are prompted to explaining their reasoning or modeling. Reasoning and Modeling tasks are in the curriculum as well as on the MCAP Math assessment. To support at home, have your scholar explain how they solved one of their problems (basic computation or word problem).
Definition:
1) Mathematical Reasoning- is an evolving process of conjecturing, generalizing, investigating why, and developing and evaluating arguments.
-2) Modeling- is the process of choosing and using appropriate mathematics to analyze real-world situations, to understand them better, and to improve decisions.

Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or DĂa de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

Big Battle and a Huge Win!

The Lady Tigers are improving their play with each game, and as a program we are so excited and proud of their competitive spirit! The CMIT baseball team went 1 in 1 this past week, beating Buck Lodge MS 5 to 2, but losing 8 to 7 against an undefeated Benjamin Tasker MS. The game was an all time battle!
