Mrs. Michels Weekly Updates
Let's make it a great week!
Hello Hamilton Families!
May 1st- May 5th
Well hopefully all of this April rain really does bring May flowers. I am ready for some warm dry weather for a bit!
This week we return to outdoor line up (when it is not raining). Students are expected to line up outside like we did in the fall. There is no playground time during line up, students are to go directly to the line and wait for the teacher to greet them at 9:05. Please do not drop your child off too early as we do not have supervision before 8:55.
Also, this week is teacher appreciation week. I hope you will join me in showing our teachers how much we appreciate all they do to help our students grow and learn to the best of their ability! I am so proud of our teachers and know Hamilton is the best place to grow and learn because of our amazing staff!!

Updates and Reminders
May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, and in WWCS… Mental Health Matters! Staff and students, please join us in raising awareness by wearing GREEN every Friday during the Month of May.
A reminder for our school community, Care Solace is a complimentary and confidential service provided by the Wayne-Westland Community School District. This service is FREE to students, families and staff. Care Solace helps connect individuals to mental health or substance abuse providers by locating a therapist that meets their specific needs. Note: Care Solace is not a crisis line. They will call providers for you, verify insurance, and even help you make an appointment. If you would like to use Care Solace to help you find a provider:
Call 888-515-0595. Support is available 24/7/365 in any language.
Visit caresolace.com/wwcsd and search yourself or click “Book Appointment” for assistance by video chat, email, or phone.
Care Solace is not a crisis service. If you or a loved one are experiencing an emotional crisis or thoughts of suicide, support is available. The National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline provide free, confidential support and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
For those experiencing a suicidal crisis, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by calling or texting 988 on your phone, or visit 988lifeline.org/chat/ to chat with a trained mental health professional, who can provide help.
All staff and students are invited to wear green on Fridays in May to raise awareness for mental health.
Join us at the Zekelman Holocaust Center for a FREE special private event on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The evening will include guided tours of the current core exhibit and a child of a Holocaust survivor will share the story of their parent’s resilience. Light refreshments will be served. Register here today: https://forms.gle/CPYpuripJtMWaeZc9
We have wrapped up our M-Step testing and are now moving on to our NWEA testing. Please continue to help your child to be at school on time each day for the whole day so they do not miss out on important instruction, assessment and don’t have to do make up work and testing.
As the weather warms up this week please remember that shorts need to be fingertip length when arms are down at their side. Closed toe shoes need to be worn at all times. No slides or sandals, as wood chips get stuck in skin and make for painful slivers. Open toe shoes also pose a tripping hazard on the play equipment.
Family Resource Center
Are you, or do you know a student or family needing assistance? We can help with resource numbers and referrals, essential items, emergency toiletries, socks, underwear, hats, gloves, scarves, laundry assistance, food assistance and more for those unable to afford it. We have school supplies and backpacks for students YEAR ROUND. Call 734-419-2709 or email FRC@wwcsd.net. We also have a Digital Request for Services Form that you can fill out to request services. The Family Resource Center services our entire district. Our staff is also trained MiBridges Navigators and can help families apply for multiple forms of assistance through MDHHS (food, child care, etc.).
Please continue to check our district website for resources and information. Along with our Hamilton website, which includes the calendar for the upcoming school year.
